A380 service to Perth begins on 01MAY15. |
Excellent news about MCO. MCO will be longer (distance) than ORD, BOS, JFK, SEA, and IAD.. but shorter than SFO, LAX, IAH, and DFW.
I am a bit surprised about the second SEA flight since IIRC it wasn't doing too well in the off season when the route started. I have taken that flight however and it is extremely convenient. Perhaps yields have imrpoved since then (which is possible since Seattle has become a major major tech hub). There are also exciting things happening at SEA with Delta and Alaska duking it out right now and maybe EK sees potential (which explains the early morning arrival into SEA: great for connections!). Or it could be a case of Emirates protecting its position at SEA from Etihad and Qatar. Whatever the case may be (likely all three), it is good for Seattle. |

EK routes in USA YOY has seen drastic improvement in SEA. AS feed from Canada helps bigtime. |
Thanks adambisi for the map and the correction! Edited my post.

Same! I am surprised Miami or Atlanta hasn't come first, and reguarding A380, MCO has been A380 ready thanks to the B-52s that used it when it was McCoy AFB. Just they need to add the triple gate and Emirates may be more than happy if there are yields ?!

Interesting choice MCO over MIA. I am sure the MCO flights will be successful tho.
Can't wait to hear what Fair Skies has to say about it... just ridiculous |

Can't wait to hear what Fair Skies has to say about it... just ridiculous Today, it was announced that Emirates will begin service to Orlando, FL in September. Americans for Fair Skies sees an interesting parallel here since Orlando is the home of Disney World and like Mickey Mouse, Emirates is not real. It’s make believe. It’s not a company. What is not a fairy tale, however, is that Emirates is an arm of the Dubai government, located in the United Arab Emirates. But unlike the magic of Disney World, Emirates and the other two subsidized Gulf carriers, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways, are threatening U.S. aviation jobs and distorting the international marketplace. It’s time to restore #FairSkies and end the #MiddleEastSubsidies. The US government MUST open consultations with the UAE and Qatar to level the playing field and end the world’s largest trade violation. |
I am really pleased as well. This opens up a plethora of opportunities without the need to connect through ATL, MIA, JFK, etc. Just as an example, you will now be able to get from Orlando to Cape Town on just two legs. Was planning on doing a trek in Nepal next year and this makes scheduling incredibly easier....

I agree we will see a few more destinations announced before the end of the year. DL/AA/UA have pissed EK off recently. I can see EK going full throttle on north american expansion now.

I think we will see within the next couple years: MIA-Large O/D market to Middle east/india/Africa PDX-Alaska airlines hub, AS interlines/codeshares with EK on all flights. ATL- Interlines with DL MSP- Interlines with DL DTW- Interlines with DL And if EK goes too aggressively after UA/AA hubs with not enough O/D traffic I think they might find themselves trying to get all their US feed from B6/AS. |
