A380 at BHX?
With the runway extension completed, what are the chances?
|
There's every chance, I don't quite know what their plans are for BHX, at some point one of the flights will be upgraded, probably the lunchtime service (although my heart wishes the evening one which is my regular)
I'm trying to think if they would rather try the 3 times a day service with an early morning flight leaving BHX around 08:00 time on a trial basis say Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at first to see what the loads would be like. |
Personally, I doubt that it will happen. Is current 2 x 77W daily regularly oversold and stuffed to the brim in loads? If not, swapping one of the 77W for a 388 may not make sense (and adding a 3rd daily even less so). Further, EK has already committed a lot of 388s to flights to/from UK: LHR, LGW and MAN (and potentially GLA, if rumours prove to be correct). Since BHX is roughly half way between LHR and MAN, those wishing to fly on a 388 have a choice. And reducing it down to a single 388 daily frame will probably not be a welcome development.
I see extra A380s being used either on single-frame/trunk routes like some to the US (or swapping it for one of the triple daily to JNB) or bringing it to more new destinations (like GLA and maybe GRU, once the runway is done). |
Maybe, maybe not. I think the cargo on the route often makes up for any seats that may or may not be sold. If the route wasn't viable there wouldn't be two 777Ws every day, there would be one A330 - there is obviously something on the route that justifies two of those every day.
I refuse to be drawn in to the MAN / LHR debate and which is better and which isn't for potential passengers out of BHX. BHX is five minutes from where I live (sometimes when I get off EK39 at 11:50 (if on time) I'm being dropped off at home by 12:20) so you can see neither of those airports is getting my business any time soon. End of the day, only Emirates management know what is going to happen and all this 'I was speaking to a pilots wifes best friends hairdresser in the supermarket and she said that her husband had told her [insert 3 letter airport code here] is definitely going to be next for the A380' |

There are times I wished 5 minutes from Heathrow to be honest :)

I'd just be happy if they started doing a 3-class service lol

It was hard enough getting op-ups to F at MAN, but even less chance now that I fly from BHX :D
