EK381: A380 at remote stand in DXB

Took EK381 HKG-DXB a few weeks ago. After landing at DXB we taxied for about 10-15 minutes, then parked at a remote stand. I have never seen a full A380 parked at a remote stand before. Deplaning was then conducted via two stairways attached to the lower deck. All the Y passengers were held back while the entire upper deck of premium passengers came downstairs and deplaned. That process took another 15 minutes or so. There also weren't enough buses, so people had to wait on the stairs of the plane. The bus to the terminal was at least another 10-15 minutes.

Isn't this meant to be a premium route for EK? Could they really not find a terminal parking stand for the A380...?

On an even crazier note - arrived on 762 from Joburg on Thursday evening & we parked over the other side at Terminal D amongst the Fly Dubai planes!!

The bus took a while to arrive & they had to move miscellaneous cargo/other trucks that were blocking access for the stairways. Of course it's then a trek fought down to the Dubai/Sharjah Road and round the bottom of the runway to get right round to Terminal 3.

Probably plenty of buses but passengers wouldn't fill up the empty spaces (sorry, pet hate of mine).

Same happened on EK383 on Sunday. Y must have been completely full as there were at least 10 op-ups to J. Even in J in took over 45 minutes from landing to get to immigration.

Due to the runway works and the subsequent changes to the schedules, there are sometimes not enough gate parking slots at peak times, and because of the schedule and aircraft type changes, some A380s are not going to be utilised as efficiently - as in, EK will not have their A380s going to park at a gate and then wait 8 hours for its next trip. Taxiing an A380 around the airport is much more expensive than laying on buses for pax.

On another note, loads seem to be up in SE Asia - was just on a flight with 40 Y-J op ups!

That could be because of the summer travel. Most people taking vacations/ returning back and so premium loads are down and Y loads are up.

Very likely - lots of younger travellers in couples, groups etc. Many backpacks!
