Double Upgrade with miles question

Is it technically possible to upgrade on EK from Economy to Business with miles before checking in and then upgrade again with miles on board the aircraft to First Class (space and catering permitting of course)?

According to their rules: "a double upgrade between Economy Class and First Class is permissible at twice the applicable Miles."

Only if there is only F and Y cabins. ( I.e no J cabin ) as per 13...3. of the above mentioned link. Otherwise only a single cabin upgrade is possible.

Though its not possible as per the rules, some pursers allow it and some don't.

Yeah I wonder. Say dxb man in flex y is 25k points and you upgrade, would you only have to use 25k points to go to f?

I wish I tried this on my earlier trip back from MAN with spouse. F was empty and somehow it had got into my head that a double upgrade is not possible. That's one drawback of being a FF - you know too much for your own good ...

You can always try. As I said earlier some pursers will allow and some don't. You have a better chance of success if you have already done one upgrade online/ before boarding and try for the next one on board.

50 k in total.

25 k to upgrade from Y to J ( online / checkin)
Another 25k to try for an instant upgrade on board.( some pursers don't allow this)

Always had a better success rate whenever I had upgraded online than at the check in desk or lounge. I'm not sure what information the purser has on the computer ( Does it actually have the ticketing details)?

That's what I meant. Upgraded to J months before and would have loved to get the wife and daughter in F...

Yes you can for double the miles. Its an unwritten rule and at the discretion of the purser on the day.

Very true. Once Mistress had a delay of about 1.5 hrs, which happens to me almost every second journey on my MAA-DXB sector, I never bothered to write to Emirates, because I knew that for less than 3 hours delay there isn't much of a compensation.

But she wrote to them telling that how she missed shopping in DXB duty free, but didnt whine, rather a kind of appreciation for their onboard service . To my surprise she was credited 10000 miles.

Yes, done that many times already!

It works on op-ups as well.
