I absolutely hate the 380 in J. I've only been okay with it if I get a K seat (23K if possible) but I can't do that when I'm travelling with mrsukdoctor. The only choice is E and F which are not great.
The design is atrocious and I suspect that most of those who prefer the 380 in J are vertically challenged. I do not think anyone over 6' tall would be able to feel comfortable on the 380
I dont mind the seat width on the 380 ,I think its okay unless you are obese. It just feels that you are in a coffin with not much of personal space. No window options if you are travelling as a couple as well.
Though the service on the 380 in J is better than before its not great compared to the 777(too mechanical and slow as compared to the 777)
The marathon walk to the toilets in the rear ( especially of you are sitting in the forward section ) means that I never choose the 380 if possible.
The only advantage of the 380 in J is the direct aisle access as you don't have to step over the passenger next to you) and the bar.

They might let you use the forwards toilet (depends on the crew). However the allocated toilets are 4 at the back. ( Have a look at the toilet occupancy signs on the roof )

When I ever have a choice, I go for the 777 over the 380. I don't care about the bar, and on average have had better service on the 777. Get yourself a window seat and its quite private.
But specific to the OP's question, because in reality there isn't much in it between both planes, I would go with the most convenient time for the OP (which in this case appears to be the 777, but I would say the same if it appeared to be the 380)

Be careful you don't miss the flight if you buy a cheap connection you won't be covered by EK.

A380 all the way... The showers are not to be missed, and neither the bar/ social area at the back...
