They carried them on a chair each whilst throwing rose petals on the ground in front of them.

it really annoys me at MAN when they hold F pax until last!

separate bridge but they are always slow at boarding.

Jodieh12 Sep 16, 2013 8:25 am

I wonder why it was a remote stand, every time I've boarded they've used the very last stand, the one on the end of the pier??

extramileage Sep 16, 2013 8:39 am

Buses + Stairs is standard operating procedure at JED. Brutal.

I think they use that stand for other flights also. If the plane on there gets delayed, the A380 will need to go remote. I bet EK weren't very pleased.

tezzer Sep 16, 2013 4:41 pm

All the passengers, YC&F were bussed out together, chaos, and took forever, it seems that the bridge was broken, bodes well for the twice daily 380 service being trialled this week.

I did suggest to the CC that perhaps it was a lady Captain, who had a spot of bother parking, it went down well with the chap, his female colleague less so !

I'm already dreading the thought of having to switch to MAN from April 2014. I have been using LGW and rarely LHR to connect to EK for the last few years.

With flybe stopping its gatwick flights, MAN is the only option. MAN is always jinxed for me. Either my luggage arrives at the other end broken, flight delayed or even cancelled .

Out of my 5-6 flights out of MAN in the last few years, I think only one was OK :(

The lounge is nice though

The walk to the gate (if they use one) is miles!

Its nice in Cheshire where I am from :D

The airport is a shambles.

And lo and behold when we got back into MAN last night the gate was still occupied by the lunchtime flight which hadn't left, so we were remote standed and bussed into the terminal again.

1 bus for F, two busses for most of the J and then presumably they let the Y passengers off, once again by a single stairway.

If this is how they are going to cope with 2 flights a day, MAN hasn't the capacity for 2 380 flights a day, when something goes wrong.

Which is why I'm not very happy to start flying via MAN from April.

Had a nice connection to EK at LGW using flybe. And flybe is leaving LGW from April.:(

ukdoctor Sep 22, 2013 6:35 am

Last year I sent my mom and dad in F because it was their anniversary . Exactly the same issue. Suffice to say that it spoiled the whole experience.:(

Must admit I have flown regularly from MAN for the past 18 months (777 & A380), and for the most part been happy with it. (the walk from the lounge to the plane isn't great, but I'm not too fussed). I def wouldn't have any issues with booking from there; its only because I have moved location that I am starting to fly from BHX now.

Though it sounds like the last couple of days there have been problematic, and they def need to sort out contingency plans for when things don't go to plan if they are going to start having two A380 flights a day.

It is a terrible airport. Only plus is that it is 20 mins from my parents where I base myself when in the UK.

Boarding is generally a zoo.

Actually, you know what, the more I think about it, maybe you are right. Boarding can be a zoo, I usually stayed in the lounge for longer to try and avoid it, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Compared to my last flight from BHX, where I was sat in the lounge within 15min of the car getting there (including checking in bags etc), and then easy boarding; the more I think about it, maybe BHX isn't as bad a I first thought! (Not saying it's great, but there is something nice about a smaller airport sometimes). Though I do miss the opportunity for op-ups ;) even if they did generally only happen ex-DXB

Isn't that exactly what they do? They only have one A380 stand, so if that's blocked, the contingency is to bus the passengers.

There's another airport that EK flies to that regularly buses passengers to and from the terminal.... DXB :)

Yes, but not with one set of stairs and 3 busses !

After getting off the bus with all the rif raf and then going up the stairs onto the 380 then I'm assuming the front stairs to my suite, I'd be quite exhausted and need a shower, some cavier and a glass of Dom :D

It can get worse. I've landed in places where Y is allowed to disembark off a single entrance before J and F are allowed to leave. Successfully pushed past CC once, who insisted there's a separate bus. I said I don't think Y passengers have the plague, but I know I need to make a meeting.

As a man married to a female airline pilot, and after years of listening to the jokes and comments, the "spot of bother parking" bit is irritating, but perhaps I'm just sensitive.

No offence intended, just a little bit of light hearted banter.

Never experienced that. Not sure how you could ever achieve that on EK unless the only exit was through the rear doors.

ghostwrita Sep 26, 2013 7:09 pm

On a 380? Very possible. I recall three times. Never happened on any other type though.

I wasn't referring to the 380 though - thought A380 always has a dedicated stand and these incidents are very rare unlike the A330 where this seems to be norm.

ghostwrita Sep 26, 2013 8:13 pm

Happened to me twice in JNB and once in Asia. Maybe BKK. I assumed the whole thread was referencing the 380.
