Correct. But on BA you are getting a better seat for the extra money you pay for WT plus.On EK you are still stuck on the same. Y seat in spite of paying 30% or 40% more. The
ICE is one thing I miss :(

But if you are buying the more expensive seat on BA since that is what is needed to upgrade, then it is irrelevent since wont be travelling in premium economy anyway

I've booked flex tickets yet there's no upgrades available - is it still the same system that there's only a few seats released for upgrades?

There has to be availability in the upgrade booking class. Whether you have a flex or saver fare makes no difference to the upgrade ( other than the miles reqired )

Thought so Dave noble - oh well I will just have to keep trying! I just wondered if I was missing something. Thank you.

I agree that what you mentioned is correct in case there is D availability on EK at the time of booking. But EK frequently does not have D availability and release them closer to the travel date. (Which I usually snap up with expert flyer seat alert). In case.they do not release a D seat then I'm stuck with the Y seat.:(
I usually pay almost the same or slightly more than an EK flex fare for a WT plus fare and only need half of the avios needed for an upgrade from regular Y.(I am aware that you need less miles for EK flex compared to EK saver but its not half!!) Moreover I can earn almost 80% of it back from the WT plus ticket itself as avios is credited on point to point and not by zones as on EK. (MAN-LHR-XXX earns tier and avois on both sectors and is cheaper than LHR-XXX)
Even EK platinums will struggle to earn back 20 to 25 % of the miles needed to upgrade a flex Y ticket (for the same sectors by the time the travel is complete.

But during the peak periods EK is the only hope as availability is much better.

It seems to me that there are major concerns amongst Skywards members about the Emirates / Qantas FF tie in. I have written in other forum topics about the INCREASING fuel surcharge on reward tickets. It seem that Skywards are becoming Qantas but without the benefits that Qantas FF's have over codeshare flights.

Precisely my thoughts. But what benefits QFF has over codeshare flights that EK doesn't?

No wonder Skywards was recently ranked one of the worst frequent flyer programmes based on redemption percentage.

Where was this ranking published?
