First Time on EK - op up probability?
Hi - first time poster in this forum :)
Reading the threads with intrest re op ups. i am a first time traveller LHR - SYD in J, single traveller on PNR, Skywards new member (no status) flying Saturday Threads seem to suggest I have a reasonable chance of an op up to F. How would you rate my chances? Any tips like BA (check in at airport etc)? |
Welcome to the EK forum!
I would say your odds are close to 0. You would need 1. A flight full in J and open in F. 2. Zero Skywards Silver or Gold Members on the flight in J. 3. Extremely good luck. I think #2 would be the biggest hurdle, if there are any EK FFs they would be upgraded first. |

Considering this gentleman had no status with Emirates i challenged his story as 'fantasy' you can read the thread here :- http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/to...emirates-a380/ Comments would be appreciated. |

Very interesting as i have been having a discussion with a gentleman who said he 'blagged' an upgrade from J to F in the Emirates lounge at Manchester

Therefore, I agree that the OP's chances are slim to none. LHR-DXB and DXB-SYD are premium heavy flights with plenty of Skywards Gold/Silver passengers in J. |

I get so disheartened when I read these posts about pax with status in J being upgraded. I am EK Gold and fly J and I was never upgraded. I am close to being convinced that EK has me on a blacklist. :(
Will someone please put in a word for me? On EK204 03/05 :) |
a friend of mine and his wife flew their first time with emirates 2 weeks ago VIE-DXB and both got an opup Y-J.
They dont have Skywards (neither before nor afterwards) and they've never flown with EK before. They did OLCI as i advised them in case EK overbooks and got called out before boarding at the gate where they recived their new BPs. Last name starts with a J for that matter. |

On the other point being upgraded ex uk is a nightmare esp ex man. I am yet to get one... |

Will someone please put in a word for me? On EK204 03/05 :) The problem with JFK-DXB is that it is fairly status heavy as well as premium heavy. 25+ Golds in J regularly is not uncommon on weekends. F is usually close to being sold out, so you are talking about just 4-5 seats being available for op-ups. Combine these two and you'll probably get a sense of why it is hard to snag an op-up. I can think of far more cases where the gate agent has asked me if I could travel on a later flight as there is no scope for upgrades as the premium cabins are all full, than when I have been upgraded. In fact my op-up frequency ex JFK was ZERO for the past 3 years until just about a couple of months back. Maybe you can try to make Platinum and that would completely flip things over? |

At the end of the day guys, think of the thousands of people who travel on EK every week. Then think of the large group that a regs on this forums and travel EK. Now look at the number of people who have written on the OP-UP thread.
If you go around assuming, hoping, expecting to be upgraded randomly you're more likely to be disappointed. Expect the level of service for that you have paid for and anything else is a bonus. |
who is assuming anything?
/heads back to BA forum for reasonable discussion |
