Silent Lounge Concept

EK told me they have a "silent lounge concept" and only irregularities would be announced.
Why cannot anybody tell this to the people running the lounges? Also in the new T3 F lounge, every flight is announced. Same noise pollution as in their airplanes.
I am sure they do have great concepts many times but someone should also execute them :)

Was this mentioned at an outstation or in DXB?

I wish DXB lounges had a 'no announcements' policy... it's so constant that I don't think anyone listens to them.

Maybe the 'silent' bit is for refusing to call out passenger names within the lounge. I once asked F reception to call me out when my wife arrived to the lounge. They refused citing some policy.

I do prefer lounges not to announce flights generally

At most Emirates's lounges outside DXB I visit, it doesn't tend to be too much of an issue since there are few Emirates flights to announce

Would really love if the lounges were more silent. It would be much more relaxing that way. The new J lounge in the A concourse at each end as a slightly lower level which is called 'quiet area' but there are still big speakers spewing out flight announcements! If some of the lounge could be quiet and then a sign posted as a warning no flight announcements in this area, that could be a good compromise.

It seems to me that most other airports have announcements in the terminal but the lounge is silent. DXB is the opposite!

The open plan nature of the DXB lounges mean you are also treated to the announcements from gates nearby that you are above. As another poster mentioned - after a while you tune them all out.

no -- EK lounge in DXB yesterday (F lounge new terminal) and last week in the smaller F lounge in the old terminal.

sitting in T3 loung again, every flight is announced at least twice. sure you can also hear all the announcements from below and above, but i am only referring to announcements made over the F lounge PA.
horrible.
in total, the T3 lounge is a reason to now use Dubai for connecting (and that of course is not only for the announcements)

Don't mind the lounges, but I would prefer if the planes were a bit more flipping silent!

How about "silent" in terms of screaming children.

IME EK doesn't practise that but can instead encourage bad behaviour.

Ask me how I know.

tomnativenewyorker Mar 5, 2013 4:28 am

how do you know?
