Seat allocation
My first post on this board, so please no flaming :)
I am travelling with my wife and 2 daughters before Xmas BKK-DXB-JFK-DXB-BKK in C . My travel agent through which we bought the tickets messed up the seat selection on the JFK-DXB flight ( other sectors are fine) and we end up all seating in different rows and I am really worried about my 2 daughters ( 8 and 12) seating next to complete strangers for over 12 hours. My travel agent has sent a special request to EK to change seats so we can be somewhat together, but since the flight is fully booked there is no change so far . Don't know what else to do , so your suggestions would be highly appreciated. |
First of all, I don't think you need to be utterly concerned. The seats are fairly private and if you raise the partition between the seats (on both the A380 and the 777), it is fairly difficult to reach over to your neighbor - if that is your primary concern.
What flight are you doing on the JFK-DXB leg - 202 or 204? And, is your return leg before 31-Dec-12? From 1-Jan-2013, 204 gets upguaged to an A380 - the benefit of an A380 is that all seats have aisle access and seats A, B, D, G, J, or K are more like individual seats. Even on seats E and F, if you raise the partition between the two seats, then you can't really see your neighbor at all. Let us know your flight numbers and seats and I can try to offer some more suggestions. There are a couple of seats that are actually blocked by EK that are released at the airport and you can try to grab these at check-in. Alternately, if nothing else works, just ask anyone for a change of seat - most folks would be willing to oblige and I don't think there that much cause for worry. |
jackiedada , thank you for your quick response.
I messed up my post, as actually the problem is on EK 202 , DXB-JFK flight on December 15 , which is on a 777-300 ER. As of today, we have no seats allocated when I check my booking on the EK site ( probably due to the request put in by my travel agent ). Cheers |
EK202 is an A380 that operates JFK-DXB.
You must be on EK203 which is operated by the 777. |
pansted00, I guess you are flying EK203 on 15-Dec, which is a 777-300ER and departs DXB at 2:25 am in the morning. I can see that the only unoccupied seat is 11E so nothing much you can do here unless you have 11 D or F or both.
One thing you should keep in mind is that on the 777-300 ER, the entire Row 6 is blocked by EK and is only available for assignment at the airport. That is a completely vacant row at the moment. See if you can get a couple of seats in this row opened up by EK and allocated to you. The other thing is that the J seating on the 777-300 is divided into two separate cabins - a smaller mini cabin containing rows 6 and 7 in front of the galley and a larger cabin containing rows 8 to 11 behind the galley. Try to get all your seats in Rows 6 and 7 if you can - that mini-cabin has a much more private feel to it. Avoid seats 8B and 8J as they they protrude a bit into the aisle and bear the brunt of the Y passengers shoving past you while boarding (you can avoid this by being the last persons to board though. :).) All the best! |

How bad are these drawbacks? May be I can go back to 7 if anything is still available. |
LandingGear, row 7 is missing a window, one instead of two. So you need to bend forward a bit if you wish to look out of the window. Not aware of any drawbacks for Row 6 except that the TV is on the bulkhead separator rather than the seat in front (a bit further out) - not sure if it can be counted as a real drawback.
