How about asking them for this? All these flights are currently showing good availability.

I am disappointed that you were fed a line about aircraft mechanical issues - that is bad form.

24-Dec EK653 dep MLE 2255 arr DXB 0200+1 (is this your original flight?)
25-Dec EK71 dep DXB 0320 arr CDG 0750
25-Dec AF2258 dep CDG 0955 arr NCL 1045

Father Ted - yes that was our original flight.
Oh! Now there's an option! Thanks SO much - I will ask them when I phone back today - that was very very helpful of you, thanks.

It is Christmas Day, not just any old day. I suspect they saw very low loads and are using the MX as a very transparent excuse.

Lots of options; check http://matrix.itasoftware.com

Probably best to have the results page open when you call the airline and help them to find a solution.

Here is one via AMS, which will give you just enough time to go to downtown AMS and have a Christmas dinner on the canals (book early!).

Male (MLE) to Newcastle (NCL) - ma, dec. 24
Emirates Male (MLE) to Dubai (DXB) - ma, dec. 24
Emirates 653 Dep: 10:55PM Arr: 2:00AM 4h 5m Boeing 777 Economy (B)

Layover in DXB di, dec. 25 6h 20m

Emirates Dubai (DXB) to Amsterdam (AMS) - di, dec. 25
Emirates 147 Dep: 8:20AM Arr: 12:40PM 7h 20m Airbus A380 Economy (B)

Layover in AMS 9h 10m

KLM Amsterdam (AMS) to Newcastle (NCL) - di, dec. 25
KLM 971 Dep: 9:50PM Arr: 10:10PM 1h 20m Boeing 737 Business (Z)

As an alternative, Christmas in Dubai is something you will not easily forget. You might add a ski trip, a cruise, or do other weird UAE tourism stuff!

I would nominate the above as being the "post of the month" if there were such a thing! Thanks for the smile.

I'm getting absolutely nowhere at all with emirates on the telephone right now - does anyone have a customer services telephone number please?

In the UK please.
I have a direct number (as opposed to a ridiculous premium rate number) but whenever I ask to speak with customer services I get told that they can't put me through to anyone - today they just put me through to skywards

That's a nasty 0870 number. The geographic number for Emirates reservations is 01625 445 200. Customer relations is, I think, 020 7808 0007 but I doubt that they will be able to do anything about the issue that reservations couldn't handle.

Thanks everyone - I hate 'nasty' 0870 numbers - especially when you tend to get put on hold for an eternity- I tried again today and was told I need to give them a bit longer to see if they can do anything. Until then I'm in limbo really. I asked about some of the other flight options that some others on here have kindly suggested but they refused to say anything until they have had an email, from some magic office to tell them what they are allowed to offer.
I'm resigning myself to the fact that we are probably going to be in Dubai on Xmas day.

OT: 0870 numbers are now included in many suppliers "inclusive allowance", ie they cost the same as geographic numers with BT, Sky and Talk Talk.
