EK768 to EK15 is not the shortest connection, so should be excluded from Dubai Connect.

It looks like EK768 to EK11, or EK762 to 15, would also qualify, but are shorter connections, and this would usually rule your flights out.

mitsmaui Nov 11, 2015 6:35 am

Thanks eternaltransit! Useful to know.

ft101 - I wondered that too, but it came up as eligible on the manage booking page, but had an error when I tried to book online. I phoned CS and they booked it instantly without question.

Perhaps it's based on the shortest connection in that fare class?

skywardhunter Nov 11, 2015 10:15 am

I believe it's the shortest available connection, so if EK11 is sold out then it woudl qualify.

Smartlife987 Nov 12, 2015 5:21 am

Dubai connect is usually eligible if the shortest available route is closed and sometimes even if you are in J they give it to you (based on experience).

As its a night flight a good night sleep in a hotel room is much better than spending it in the lounge although they have good sleeping chairs (have spent almost 8-10 hours there) it might be better for you to just go to the hotel

In August I flew VCE-DXB-NBO and was offered and booked Dubai Connect even though we elected to use the afternoon flight to NBO as opposed to the morning flight i.e. we opted for a 17 hour layover vs an 11 hour layover so we could sleep properly and not have to wake up and hurry back to DXB even though the morning flight was available at booking (plus we saved $100 per ticket). As per the rules this technically should not happen but I'm not complaining :)

Well the shortest connection would also have been eligible, so that may have factored in... Either way EK has to give you STPC, they may have said f*** it, let them enjoy a few extra hours in the city...

saneman Nov 30, 2015 12:42 am

I have a 7 hr 45 min layover on a Wednesday. From 2:05pm to 9:50pm.

I am in Economy (Y).

Are there any freebies for such long transit for Y such as meals , transportation?

Any Emirates shuttles that take us around or should i just hire a taxi and go around?

According to advice in another thread, best to be back around 8:30?

Are these Emirates Stopover plans any good for such a layover?

You get a meal voucher for a transit >4hrs but they can be difficult to find. I've not had one in a while but I believe the connections desk can provide them or there is (used to be at least) a counter at gate A24 or A25.

Stopover package seems like a waste considering you'd get about 4.5 hours of actual time to sleep at most. For less you can buy lounge access which for that length of layover I think is more suitable.

Ah, that's a much better system! It's been over 2 years since I had one, though surprised they now openly give them out, it used to always be a bit of a secret that you had to specifically know to search for

asiantraveler Jan 14, 2016 8:36 pm

STPC?

I have a trip coming up with Emirates flying business class that has a 9 hour overnight layover. I got the trip with awards miles. Do you know if Emirates offer STPC for awards ticket or only for revenue ticket only? Thank you for your help.

What is the routing? It depends if this is the fastest connection, also, is it an EK reward or from another partner?

It's ek 383 HKG - DXB 9 hrs overnight layover then ek 225 DXB - SFO. Partner award from AS miles. I don't think there's any faster connection to SFO.

Unfortunately not as per the new rules, as you have a better connection EK381 which arrives into DXB at 5:35 am which gives a connection time of around 4 hours to EK225.

Thank you. So I need to find a hotel or sleep at the airport.

Usually the Le Meridien Dubai. Right opposite the airport.

They also use the Al Buston Rotana. I've stayed at both on Dubai Connect

ZBigFam Jan 21, 2016 11:37 pm

Can you choose? Would rather the Le meridien.

You'll just get a voucher for whichever hotel. The Al Bustan is a slightly nicer hotel IMO.

There are also other hotels possible, it depends on the availability (once I got the JW Marriot Marquis because the others were full)

It is, but the layover was - due to a misconnection - 13 hours so it actually worked fine

It's a hotel that's conveniently also owned by the Emirates Group :D

Dubai connect logistics

I haven't found much information on Dubai connect. And the Emirates flight crew are obviously not briefed on the process. So I wanted to share my experience.

First step is to obviously reserve Dubai connect I did this when I booked my flight.

Upon check-in in Chicago they gave me my hotel vouchers as well as meal vouchers. It was at this time that I saw they put me in the le meridien hotel.

When you get to Dubai don't wait around for your luggage because it will be forwarded to your final destination. The flight crew told me that I had to pick up my luggage so I wasted about a half hour standing at the luggage carousel.

Instead go to the chauffeur drive counter and present your vouchers. They will arrange for a Mercedes van to bring you to the hotel. It's very close about 3 minutes away.

Hotels decent the rooms that give you are not part of the main set of rooms. There is a separate emirates wing.

They're not as nice as the regular rooms but it sure beats sitting in the lounge for 13 hours.

DYKWIA Feb 13, 2016 9:24 am

Just to add, you can ask for your luggage to be short checked to Dubai if you want. You'd need to arrange this at check-in.

There are some good bars and restaurants in the attached Le Meridien Village.

NCL-HKT

I have this in place later this year when I'm travelling Emirates Newcastle to Phuket. Our flight from Newcastle lands in Dubai at 23:59 and our Phuket flight departs at 10:30am the following morning. I'm assuming we will get put in the same hotel. I'm travelling with a friend, will we get our own rooms or have to do a roomshare? What meal vouchers do they provide you with and how long do they collect you before your flight?

Pretty sure you could insist on separate rooms at check-in at the hotel if they don't already provide them. Just because pax are on one PNR doesn't mean they're comfortable sharing rooms, could be for personal, moral, religious reasons etc, you could fib with any of those.

I'm interested to see your flight lands at 23:59. Most arrival times are in increments of 5 minutes, however I've also noticed my usual flight HYD-DXB is scheduled to arrive 23:59. I wonder if this has to do with slots and they mean midnight but put it as 23:59 to keep it in the previous day or something.

ZBigFam Feb 13, 2016 12:30 pm

Pretty sure they would give you two rooms. It's a room per ticketed passenger as far as I know.

They give you two vouchers, one for dinner and another for brekkie. Problem is lots of the restaurants close at 11pm. The ones that are open later than that aren't on the voucher as options.

They will send a car for you 2 hours before departure. The hotel is 3 min away which is nice.

Guys I've booked an EK F award using QF points AMS-DXB-BNE with a 10.5 hour overnight layover in DXB (00:15-10:25), according to MMB I am eligible for Dubai Connect.

Which sort of hotel can I expect travelling F ?

Thanks

Normally it's the Le Meridien Dubai. Right opposite the airport.

I just traveled F Class LAX to SAW with a whopping 22 hour layover in DXB. I received vouchers for Le Meridien at LAX. This was my 3rd time at Le Meridien, the other two were while traveling in Business Class. Maybe a coincidence, but the actual room assigned was the nicest of the 3. It was ground floor level, with a little sitting area outside the sliding glass door.

The other 2 rooms were nice but were 2 floor level.

We're u in the royal section of Le meridien or the emirates section? I found the Emirates section to be tired and in need of updating.

Hi All, Flying next sunday BDL-IAD-DXB-BAH on a ticket my company booked for me. Apparently its Dubai Connect eligible. I'm flying in Y and half 8h 20m layover at DXB. Where do I pick up the voucher? I'm guessing it has to be at IAD can I do it at the gate or do I have to go out to the ticket counter? Also do they tell you how long to allow to get back to the airport? Any recent updates as to what hotel they are using for Y? Thanks

Without checking, I doubt vey much there is a DXB-BAH connection that is eligible for Dubai Connect.

If it was, then I'd ask at the IAD ticket desk. Failing that, then at DXB when you arrive.

ZBigFam Mar 13, 2016 3:16 am

Has anyone used Dubai connect when flying first? I did NOT like the old wing of the le meridien that they put me in when I flew business. If they do that again I think I will just enjoy the first class lounge in Dubai. Any advice?
