Wrong name for airline?
 

Has anyone else noticed what appears to be a little typo in the name of this forum for Emirates? Isn't the airline's full name Emirates Airline, rather than Emirates Airlines? ;)

Shouldn't the forum name be Emirates Airline's Skywards since it is the forum for Skywards which is possessed by Emirates Airline

I suppose you are right. I think it should be Emirates Airline - Skywards. I will go and administer a damn good thrashing to whoever made the mistake.

Isn't 'Airlines' the more typical usage, as in - American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, etc..

Not to be pedantic, but it is Delta Air Lines, not Delta Airlines. They are VERY picky about that.

I thought it was just "Emirates". Part of The Emirates Group but the airline has just the one word name.

Am pretty sure. Most of us - including the airline and the press, simply just refer to the airline as "Emirates"

But technically speaking, and when the Emirates Group want to refer to the airline (as opposed to Dnata etc) they use Emirates airline.

This extract from the Annual Report:

Emirates airline announced a net profit of US$225 million (AED 827 million), for the first six months of its current financial year ending 30th September 2011.

Lower case "a" in airline makes me think this is just for clarity and most of the report uses the single word "Emirates".

This wikipedia entry also indicates the Company Name to be the one word version (I know it's Wikipedia but sources are quoted):

Ok, I'm losing the will to live now and am going to stick my head in the oven. You fellas call it what you want...;)

"Emirates airline" (sic) is the correct name. The lower case "a" is intentional (why, I don't know) but is used in all public materials related to the airline.

It should also be noted that Skywards is not directly affiliated with Emirates airline, but rather is a separate operating division within the Emirates Group (http://www.emirates.com/gh/English/about/emirates.aspx).

Therefore, IMHO, the forum name should be "Emirates airline (Skywards)".
