The 380 is still having some teething problems after reading this article

Emirates Airbus A380 A6-EDQ operating EK384 Dubai – Bangkok – Hong Kong blew two right hand main gear tyres on landing and became disabled on a taxiway closing the north runway for several hours. Passengers were disembarked via mobile stairs. The return flight EK385 has been cancelled. http://www.theeksource.com/

I was supposed to be on that flight out of HKG on the 8th, but was told there were "mechanical issues" upon check-in.

This is not a teething problem. This is an operational issue that happens to dozens of aircraft every single week, but doesn't make the news because nobody really cares that a 737 for example locked its brakes.

The Captain of the A380 flew back on EK373 last night. Sat next to him in First class
had a good chat with him for most the flight and he was chatting about the above

Found the report and pictures of the incident here http://avherald.com/h?article=44da4394&opt=4353 .

Note how the blown rim was almost flattened by the skid.

Return flight was surely due to depart HKG on 7th (at 22:20)?

Wow. Those pics of the ground down wheel are quite something!

Could someone kindly update on the A380 situation - I take it only some sectors have blocked A380's, whilst other routes (DXB-MAN) are running the A380s no problem.

Well annoyed as im traveling to Shanghai next week and its on the 777 instead of the 380 I was on in December :(

Is there a date of when the issues will be resolved?

Correct, meant to say the 7th. Had the evening flight HKG -> BKK on the 7th, then connecting to the 2:40 AM BKK -> DXB.

EK switched me over to a HKG -> DXB flight instead. What I am just realizing is that when they did this they didn't put any frequent flier # on my boarding pass and no miles are crediting anywhere. On both the HKG->BKK and BKK->DXB flights I was crediting to my AS FF account.
