Change emirates flights without fees?
I am on an 8am flight on Emirates (this is more than 1 month away).
If instead, I want to leave the previous evening, on the 10pm flight, what are my options? - Paying the change fees - that seems obvious enough. - Is there a way to "waitlist" myself on the earlier flight, without any fees? Has anyone been able to successfully do that? |
No easy way to avoid the fees, sorry.

Check your fare rules, since I changed a ticket way back when I flew Y that only cost me the departure tax (I changed my return city from DAM to AMM).

This appears to be the most relevant current thread for my question.
I have a multi-sector, multi-carrier itinerary booked through an online agent. EK is not the first carrier, nor the ticketing carrier. Two sectors are on EK in F on the 777. This will be my first time on EK and I have next to zero knowledge of the airline. Ideally, I'd like to change both EK flights to the A380. According to the schedule I can do this and still avoid changing the current transit in DXB to a stopover.

The online booking you made - should list all of the separate airline PNR's (booking references). Find the EK one and go to EK.com, Manage Your Booking and then it should bring up the 2 flights you are on. You should then be able to bring up the fare conditions related to your ticket. I would have thought a change was possible as long as the fare buckets were available - either A class to A class or P class to P class (only 2 F buckets). If you still get stuck, call up your local EK office - Australia is 1300 303 777 Let us know how you get on. One of the resident ticketing gurus will be along shortly to probably shoot me down in flames. Good luck... |

That's ok, most of us have next to zero knowledge of the airline as well...;)

Yep, I've got the PNRs for each of the airlines and when I plug it into the EK website I get all my flights listed, including the two EK sectors. Unfortunately, however, in the "e-Ticket Status" column, it says "None". Even though I booked coming on six weeks ago (and have confirmed itineraries and credit card charged etc.) I'm told that this is not necessarily an issue as the itinerary does not commence for another six months and EK isn't the first carrier. This may be the reason why I cannot find any fare rules on the EK site. That said, you have corrected me on an error I have made. I assumed (not entirely sure why) that my fare was booked in F. However, Amadeus shows the booking class as A which is indeed a booking class on both the 777 and A380. Unfortunately, two separate calls to EK in Australia asking for assistance with the rules have been fruitless as they appear to not want to have anything to do with it until the itinerary has commenced. I explained to them that I know they can't make changes at this point because it's booked through an agent and all I want is some information on the rules about changing flights, but they say 'call your agent, ask them for the rules'. As I'm in Australia and the agent is in the US, the call can be quite expensive. I might have to try Skype, however. (The other reason for not wanting to call EK unless I'm sure I can make the changes I want is because the fare is part of the ex-RGN alleged 'currency issue' fares and I don't want the agent unnecessarily perusing my booking.) Thanks again, though. Now I know that I'm in A and A is available on the other flights I'm confident I should be able to make the change without issue. If a ticketing guru could confirm, or if someone could help me find the fare rules (if at all possible) without calling the agent, I'd still be grateful. |

I wouldn't worry about the RGN fare issue - most agents couldn't care less. All they want to do is resolve your issue and move onto the next call. If they start asking questions, just tell them that you are: 1. Naked or 2. One of your children has just set fire to his/her brother/sister And simply hang up and call again Cheers |

If travel has not commenced yet, then the fare should also be re-evaluated and any fare difference if price has gone up may need to be paid There is no benefit in asking EK since they will correctly refer you back to the agent If changes are permitted and you are happy with any fare difference then you can change to the A380 flight as long as appropriate class is available |
I contacted the online agent and asked them about changing some flights. The agent put me on hold and contacted EK who apparently told the agent something like 'we can't find the fare' or 'fare rules' or something. The advice from the agent (possibly also from EK) was to fly the first sector on the itinerary (which is not EK) and then phone to make the changes. I asked the agent to email me the specific fare rules but haven't received them, possibly because they can't find them!
