Emirates 110V AC Power Socket, Maximum Power ?
 

Hello to all Emirates FF

So for many flights in Y and J, I still have did not get any power from the 110V ac socket, I have tried several but no joy, PC and Mac. All my adapters do work in hotels that have 110V ac. I have asked FA's but each time, no clear answer.

Does anyone know the maximum power the socket can provide ?

I've never had a problem and I use the 3 pin Aussie plug or the 3 pin UK plug. The in seat port should readily accept a US, UK, Aussie plus direct (without the need for an adapter). It doesn't look it will when you first look at it, but trust me, in most cases the lead from your PC power supply will plug straight in. Shouldn't be an issue with max power on any device...

I always charge my phone onboard and it works fine.

It's odd, considering OP is Gold and would have flown many times on EK.

OP: It has NEVER worked for you before? I rarely get problems with the in seat power.
I use 13" MBP here with US socket head when traveling.

Perhaps try swapping the head of your mac adapter with head from another apple charger?

I have used this many times both for iphone and MBA using 3rd party and Mac chargers, always seems to work well though the heavier one can jog loose in turbulence sometimes.
Base aircraft voltage is 115v though I imagine the ampage will be limited to reduce fire risk.

I've never had a problem powering my MacBook either, I've used EU, UK and US adapters on board airlines without issue.

I've had a couple of experiences where the 110V jack would trip whenever I would connect my laptop. I realized that this was caused by the sudden power spike that would happen as soon I would plug in my charger and would trip the power outlet. Over the years, I've developed a simple technique that helps ramp up the load on the power outlet gradually and avoid the power spike.
1. Disconnect your charger from your laptop.
2. Connect only the charger to the outlet. See if the power LED on the charger lights up.
3. Switch off your laptop and connect the charger to the Laptop. If the power led still stays on, it means you are good; if it goes off probably the outlet doesn't have enough power to charge your laptop.
4. Switch on your computer and see if the power from the outlet is still there. If not try it a second or third time, it usually works.

I have charged my Thinkpad T420 (Bought in US) onboard the EK A380 and B777.
I have also charged my iPhone 4 (Bought in Dubai) at the same time using the USB port.

No issues whatsoever.

I've found that on J and F the 110v port works without a hitch. It is only in Y that I have encountered issues.
