Quick Luggage Question
So here's the script:
Traveling from GLA - KHI. GLA-DXB is economy and then DXB-KHI is business class (up'd using Skyward miles). Will I be allowed business class allowance all the way or economy? Thanks in advance. |
Pretty sure it's economy baggage allowance on upgraded flights via miles.

However if there is a mix class itinerary like yours, the most restrictive will apply which in this case is economy. Having said that, if for any reason you pickup extra luggage during your DXB stopover, you can carry the additional 10kg through to KHI. |

Not correct, you are entitled to the allowance of the class you are travelling in irrespective of method of payment.

The below is a Y revenue ticket, the LHR-DXB leg of which has been upgraded using miles from Y-J; TRAVEL INFORMATION FLIGHT EK 030 CONFIRMED DEPART/ARRIVE 24 MAR 12, 1635 AIRPORT/TERMINAL - LONDON HEATHROW (LHR), TERMINAL 3, 24 MAR 12 CHECK-IN OPENS, 1335 CLASS: BUSINESS, SEAT 08 K COUPON VALIDITY NOT BEFORE 24 MAR 12 NOT AFTER 24 MAR 12 BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE 30KGS PS - Is 8K on EK30 OK? I was originally scheduled on an A380, but it has been downgauged to a 773, presumably due to wing crack checking? |

"Kindly note that if your travelling with EK818 from Riyadh to Dubai in Economy class and EK225 from Dubai to San Francisco in Business in one ticket, will consider as business class ticket, and baggage allowance will be 2pieces of 32kgs." |

I don't think that's correct. I have previously emailed Emirates about a flight from RUH to SFO and this is what I got:

Don't have time to look it up but the rules are clear that if you've upgraded one of the flights you're only entitled to the basic weight allowance.
Having said that, I was given the upgraded class allowance many times (flying MEL-DXB-BEY with the latter in J and vice versa) without even asking. |
Official regulation is that on mixed itins, you get the baggage allowance of the class of service for each sector. Therefore, most restrictive allowance would apply.
In practice however, you get the higher baggage allowance almost always. How you get into Business Class makes no difference. |

I'll second that. On a MAN-DXB-KWI trip, out of MAN upgraded from J to F and was given 50kgs (I was carrying 55kgs) not a penny paid unlike BA who charged me for having a weight of 23.8kgs on a domestic flight!

Will I receive a higher baggage allowance on all sectors when I request for an upgrade? When traveling on multiple flights, e.g. Singapore-Dubai-Bombay any upgrade redeemed for the origin flight (Singapore-Dubai) will entitle the passenger to a higher baggage allowance for that flight only. However, the higher baggage allowance will not be applicable for the onward flight (Dubai-Bombay). Any difference in the allowance must be charged (although the passenger may intend to upgrade himself on the onward flight, at Dubai). This has been my exact experience. Theoretically in the above example you will only have to pay excess at DXB-BOM rates if you have 40kg. |
Thanks everyone, I got the business allowance today plus was allowed to checkin via the business class queue too from GLA.
Many thanks. |

How ironic. Especially since Skywards Gold customers are NOT allowed to use the Business Class queue but instead lumped with OLCI. :td::td::td:

You seem to be very unlucky with the airline. I have never had trouble using the Business Class queue
I am not the only person who has experienced this. It is different in most European and GCC stations (although Europe is also changing in my experience) where they still maintain separate counters for Gold/Silver next to the Business Class counters. But in many stations in Asia and Africa, that is simply not the case anymore. |
