DXB Airport : How to spend 15 Hours transit time

Any help would be very useful for me.
Booked a ticket from SEA-DXB-BLR around 8:30PM PST on 1/21/12.
Realized my mistake 10 minutes after booking that there is a transit time of 16 Hours in DXB airport. Called Emirates to get an earlier flight and they want to charge 400$ for the change even though seats are available in the earlier day which I am trying to avoid paying.

My wife and 4 year old son are traveling. Appreciate if someone can respond to these questions.
- Is it safe to spend time in the seating area for them in the airport ?
- Are there hotels in the airport ( without needing any VISA) ?
- is there any other less expensive way to spend time and safe ?

What passport do you hold ?

Any way they have a air side hotel in terminal one where you can rent a room without need to pass through immigration.

Your choices are basically :

a) Get an EK sponsored transit visa (approx. $60 per person) and book a hotel near the airport for the overnight stay. You can get a decent airport hotel for around $100 or so. Total cost around $280.

b) Stay overnight at the Transit Hotel which is airside and doesn't need a visa. Total cost around $225. You (especially the kid) will be EXHAUSTED after the long flight from Seattle and it will be evening Dubai time anyway. This way you will also be fresh by the time you board the Bangalore flight the next morning. You can book the transit hotel at http://www.dih-dca.com/

Would definitely suggest option (b) under the circumstances.

OP- at the time you check in for your flights at SEA you might want to ask if you can be put on the earlier flight - if there is space available and the check in agent has magic fingers (which some seem to have) you could get lucky!

thanks for responses. Looks like staying inside the airport is the best option.
