Expectations for EK J Cabin

Hello everyone!

It's me again.

What kind of service can I expect to receive from EK J class? (EK404/SIN-MEL)

For example, in SQ:

I can request for the 'exclusive' SQ Teddy Bear that's exclusive to premium pax
Book-the-cook
'Personalised' Greetings
Champagne/drinks/snacks in between flights

So is there anything that I can receive from EK as a memento? What can I request for in the cabin?

Heard they'll take Polaroid photos?

BTW, do they serve champagne in Y class? :D

thks all!

Welcome (again!)

I take this flight often. In fact, I am on it tonite in J. The service won't be as consistent as SQ.

Here's what you can expect.

- Welcome drink (once onboard). Moet or VC, water, orange juice, apple juice etc. Unlike some US carriers, you will be served pre-departure drinks in a real champagne flute (not plastic)
- Full Dinner service (the meal delivery has been improved) with a very decent wine selection
- you should be given a amenity bag (male and female ones)
- socks and eyeshades are in your seat back
- noise cancelling headphones (dont take them home!)
- breakfast will be served prior to arrival
- express landing card

I tend to want to sleep on this flight, so rarely eat dinner (better to eat and drink in the lounge). A mattress pad will be provided when you want to convert your seat. If not, they will be in the overhead bins. If the flight is empty (which is rare) grab 2 x pads. If the FA starts waving their arms in protest, pretend you don't speak English :)

They normally only take polaroids of families and kids - but I suppose you can ask.

They might give you playing cards or an EK pen or similar if you ask nicely.

If you're in Y, you can actually buy the little mini bottles of Moet if you want (I think its US$8 per bottle). Otherwise it's wine, beers, spirits etc

Let us know what you think...

Hey!

Many thanks for your prompt reply!

Hahahaha I bet an upgrade from J to F is near impossible for someone without status and is on a full flight :(

Apparently, all the Row 6 seats are block :S Im currently taking 7K seat

Hmmm... seems like both SQ & EK's aren't doing well for biz .. guess I gonna take the hard way to earn my Silver status :(

(I'm <18yo .. but I look mature though - will they serve me champagne? For SQ, they'll mark me as UM so there isn't any chance I can get alcohol drinks :( )

Another thing is .. I might have to orphan my EK account with only 14k plus miles .. wonder what I should do with it?

FOr me the best seat is 6A or 6K but I just took EK405 in 7K and it was OK, youre in the small J cabin so its quite nice. I get off in SIN from DXB then return to DXB before getting EK1 back to London. B777 service is very good and I normally sleep a lot but have always managed to get some food on the plane, the crew are very helpful. IFE is as good as SQ, or better, but as has been said it can depend on the crew or route.

I have found, if you want somehting, ask. Its taken a long time for me to think like this as I have often been the type who just sits there and doesnt make a sound.

Should we have similar expectations for 406 DXB-MEL (and prior to that 28 GLA-DXB)?

EK28 is a two class flight and you may find yourself in the "deeply reclining" J class seats which would be disappointing. I understand it's more often the lie flats nowadays but just looking at the past two weeks it's been the old ones 4 or 5 times in that period.
Don't chose Rows 6 on this flight as it's stuck on it's own seperate from the rest of the J cabin and you may be disturbed.

It's a daytime flight so no amenity kits either.

What was it you liked about row 6 compared to row 7 in the mini cab ?

Privacy, no noise from the galley

Thanks, have selected 4J and 4K on EK 28 and EK 27; 10J and 10K on EK 406 and EK 405. It probably won't matter too much which type of seats on the shorter flights GLA-DXB and DXB-GLA; more concerned about the seats on the longer flights to and from Oz though! That's a bit mean about no amenity packs to and from Dubai!
