Stranded at DXB

Some friends were booked on the EK 506 DXB-BOM this morning (0930 departure) in J. After boarding and an hour on the ground, they were made to return to the terminal because of a technical problem on the A330 (EK please get rid of these aircraft). Departure time was changed about 3 times, and is now 1500 hrs. Every seat in every class on every flight to BOM is sold out today.

They're quite annoyed because they are going to BOM for 2 days, and have been left in the lurch. They've been given a complaint form - what can they expect from the airline?

And what is EK obliged to provide? They could very well keep delaying the flight and have all the passengers waiting at the airport for hours. If anyone is in the know, is there a spare aircraft that might be used for this flight? What happens if the flight is eventually cancelled?

Not sure but have to be selfish and say I hope they don't steal the airframe I will be using to get to Manchester tomorrow morning.

Flight eventually left after an 8 hour delay. Will post back on what EK offers in terms of compensation.

My guess is probably a choice between a poke in the eye or a kick in the nuts.

EK doesn't do delays well at all.

That's been my experience with EK too.

However, I've heard from friends, with experience of both airlines, that EY appears to be much better at handing irregular operations, etc.

Maybe EK's now just too big to care?

Good luck getting anything out of Emirates for this.

Really? I've got goodwill miles for chauffeur drive no shows and dysfunctional AVOD. In fact there's even miles in my account for no reason at all. I would have thought a huge sum of miles or free ticket would be in order. Let's see.

I had a few delays with EK before and never received any compensation but again I never asked. They took care of us; hotel accommodation and airport transportation etc but no miles or anything.

Having said that it depends on departure city ofcourse, being DXB not much you can fight for imo given they have gotten you to your destination and thereby fulfilling their end of the contract

As khalid26 mentioned, other than accomodation, transport etc, I have not had anything else from emirates for a delayed flight. Dysfunctional AVOD, Chauffer drives etc are a different cup of tea. I have never had a no show chauffeur, but had a dodgy seat in one sector for which they gave me miles. I had a delayed flight a few years ago for which I was put up in a hotel in DXB with food/transport etc.I did enquire about whether I would get some miles at that time and was told that this was all i was entitled to. But at that time I was only a blue or maybe just turned silver.:(

I've only gotten miles out of EK during a delay when they have failed to perform even the basic levels of service required under the circumstances.

1) 7h22m delay. No refreshments or meals provided. Skywards Gold denied use of lounge. Held in a closed gate area with no water, toilets, etc.. for 4 hours. Some passengers physically assaulted by security personnel. Meal service not conducted by crew on board. --- 10000 miles received

2) 7h48m delay. Led to misconnect in Dubai and further 24 hour delay. No overnight hotel provided initially. Baggage delayed further 72 hours. --- Reimbursed AED 529 against receipts for baggage delay and 20000 miles as goodwill.
