On board live tv
From Bloomberg:
Gulf Air, Bahrain’s state-owned carrier, took delivery of the world’s first aircraft to be fitted with communications and entertainment technology that allow passengers to watch live TV, receive text messages and access social-media networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Surely it is only a matter of time before Emirates offers live tv? I was travelling in the US during the summer and most airlines there seem to have this. It was brilliant being able to watch Wimbeldon and The Open whilst in the air. |
I flew with Norwegian Air Shuttle to Oslo the other day and they had free wifi on their 737s. The A380 has Wifi as my iPad picks it up, but its not connected.

Live TV would be great to follow sports ...... and something like BBC?
I think the ICE takes care of everything else? |
I believe the problem for carriers outside the US is licensing, unless they limit the content and/or providers to a small number of negotiated deals. This is certainly the case in Europe (e.g. BBC) and I would imagine it applying to any carrier with significant international coverage.
I'm sure Al Jazeera would be happy to provide news only content though ;-) EK A380s will have OnAir cell and Internet wifi from next year ? (http://www.onair.aero/sites/default/...r_Emirates.pdf) WY have had this for some time on their A330s and it works quite well IME |
