773/77W - What's the difference?

Forgive me if this has been raised before, but I'm confused as to why for example A6-EBA, which is a 777-300ER is designated as 773, whereas A6-ECY, which is also a 777-300ER, is designated as a 77W.
Is there some significant difference between the two? Both I believe are 2-class aircraft, so I'm puzzled and would appreciate if some of you EK experts could explain.

I know for a fact that A6-EBA is a Boeing B777-31H/ER so I don't know why it's being assigned B773.

However, the difference between a B773 & a B77W is the range and the M.T.O.W. (B77W) having higher specs...

May I ask where you saw A6-EBA marked as a B773?

Cheers,

I have noticed this frequently on flights ex GLA. The A6-EB* series seem to be classified as 773 and the A6-EC* as 77W by flight24.com

You can see the recent GLA flights here showing this:

I know that on the 3 class, some of the old aircraft are designated 773 even though they are 77W. I think they are the ones with old ICE, or one of the old cabins installed - not really sure, but you can cross reference EF codes against EK777's fleet info post

Many thanks for the explanation.

If you go to Flight24.com, enter A6-EBA in the Aircraft Registration box, you will see there it is described as a 773.
Further question, what is a 777-31H/ER, i.e what does the 31H signify?

The difference between the 773 and 77W in the Emirates fleet is that the 773 are RR Trent powered and the 77W are GE90 powered.

'1H' signifies the order code assigned to Emirates from Boeing. -3 is the variant of the aircraft, for example; B777-300 or B777-200.

With the 'increase' in specification comes more range (hence the 'ER') and an increase in the M.T.OW. B77W = 351mt, B773 = 299mt.

Certainly, but the GE90 can also be used on the 773A. I don't believe anyone exercised that option however - all 773As seem to be only PW4000 and Trents.

Let's also not forget the marginally longer wingspan due to the raked wingtips on the 77W either. :)
