Please help (Oversized items)
Hello everyone,
New here and have questions. I will be traveling from IAH (Houston) to KHI (Karachi) via DXB (Dubai) with Emirates in May. I have got a car bodykit for a Mercedes which i want take back to KHI with me and the kit consists of a Front Bumper, Rear Bumper, Side Skirts which weigh a total of 50 lbs BUT its too long, as in the Front bumper is upto 8 ft long as well as the side skirts, the rear bumper is roughly 6-7 ft long. I might not be able to check in such large items because emirates restricts to about 273 cm for 2 pieces and my kit must be way more than that. I'll be traveling economy and was wondering if emirates sky cargo can do the job??? Will they ship it from the US to Pakistan in a reasonable price??? If not then how should I send it?? I really want to bring it, plus if it's cheap compared to other freight services like DHL or FEDEX then I'll add more items with it to make it 70 lbs. Please help out guys.
Thanks

You're probably not getting responses because (a) it's late at night in the US/early morning in Europe, and (b) nobody here knows the answer. You might have better luck posting in the Emirates-specific forum, or better yet calling the airline and asking them directly.

Groovie, welcome to FlyerTalk. This is a highly technical question for a specific airline. Please be patient with the FlyerTalk Community. (Also see, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...forum-445.html.)
In any case, as it appears specific to Emirates' policies, please follow as the thread moves to the forum for that airline. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

Air Cargo
Hi Groovie,
Welcome to FT & the EK community.
I can confirm the below mentioned.
1) EK will not check in the car body kit under your baggage allowance.
2) The car kit will have to sent by EK Sky Cargo. For this you need to contact EK Sky Cargo seprately and book you cargo with them.
3) All airlines charge air cargo on Volume Weight & not Gross Weight. You can find the formule if you google.
4) Would also suggest to contact a reputed Air Freight Forwarder in IAH as they may be able to provide the BEST deal avialable for your cargo since they have access to discounts as they move a lot of volume with the airlines where as if you go to an airline directly then you will be charges the Max price applicable.
Hope this helps.

Well I spoke to skycargo and they said they will ship it but I would need to hire a custom clearing agent in Karachi to let my items come through. I don't even know what that means.....what is the cheapest company or cheapest way to send my kit?? Fedex said around $3,000 and Skycargo said from $1,000 to 7,000

Skycargo.com has a tool where in you put the weight and exact dimensions and dep/arrival airports, it will give you how much it costs to transport the items.
Now they wont deal with individuals but, i wonder if you can call local houston sky cargo and ask them if they have any references for freight forwarders.
