What's the difference between U Class and Y Class on Emirates

Hello,

Please can I "pick your brains" what is the difference between U Class and Y Class on Emirates for my flight to India as i have been booked on U Class on the way out to India and C class on the way back. Apparently I can still pay to upgrade my flight nearer departure flying U - is this accurate information? Please could somebody confirm that C Class is proper business class and will still entitle me to the chauffeur drive from Heathrow to home. Thank you for your help.

Y and U are different fare buckets in Economy. The actual difference is based on published fare rules, which you can see on ExpertFlyer or online if that fare is available. Very often, especially with EK, there is no difference between fares in terms of fees for changes, max/ min stay etc. Depends where you're flying out of. But higher fares can be waitlisted, for example, which is not possible on lower fares. You should be able to upgrade by paying fare difference from most fares, so that is accurate.

C is indeed revenue Business and entitles you to all the bells and whistles of Business travel.

C = Full fare Business Class.

Y = Full fare Economy Class.

U = Special or discounted Economy Class fare.

Cheers,

Small correction. What you have said is generally true; however, EK uses J for full fare business class and C/I/O for discounted business (paid).

What are the earning brackets for the different levels of discounted economy class fares?

I don't think it is as straightforward as that. Some of the discounted fares give Saver (50%) mileage but some give Flex (100%) mileage. The class codes don't appear to directly correlate to miles earned.

In addition, not all fares are published on all routes out of all markets. Discounted in this sense only means it is not full fare, but could still be pricey.

Even if the C fare is discounted I have still got the "bells and whistles" ie chauffeur drive.
