Dubai to over take Heathrow by 2015 with over 75 million pax a year. The airport might even break 100 million pax before it moves to Dubai World Central.
They are expanding the airport with more concourses, etc, etc, but the real problem is the two runways. We are already getting bottle neck congestion at certain times, and its only going to get worse. The positive side is Heathrow also have two runways, so its possible to pull it off.

Here's a naive question.
Why is the new terminal being continued with (I personally saw it last week) when DXB is already exceeding its capacity. Won't it make a bad thing worse?
Why not wait until the new airport is operational?

As it is, the new terminal wont be finished by the end of next year. They have already started to make alternative plans by refurbishing the F lounge opposite Gate 122 and rumour is that they will kick all other airlines out of T1 so they can use exclusively.
Even after the no guest policy change for Golds, the J lounge in DXB is still a zoo and the wireless is completely overwhelmed, bathrooms still have queues etc etc.
Gold and Silver numbers will recede a little further (as a result of the Flex/Saver issue) - but even after all this, the airline is still posting staggering growth and the infrastructure in DXB will simply not be ready in time to meet the wave...

Another very important bit of information I forgot to post is that Paul Griffith mentions the the purple metro line faces cancellation.
This makes every thing a little confusing because they really need that high speed connection to connect the two airports one day. All this tells me is they are not very concerned with DWC, if not putting it on the back burner.
To be honest all they have to do is find a way to add one, or two more runways at DXB, and 90 million pax a year is more than enough traffic for Dubai. They don't really need DWC so they can keep that as a smaller airport for cargo, and private jets.
