Baggage question
I'm planning to book a flight RUH-DXB-SFO in Economy but planning to upgrade the DXB-SFO flight to business using miles.
So the RUH-DXB flight will be in Econ thus the 2 pcs with 23 KG each, but the DXB-SFO flight is in business so that gives me 2 pcs with 32 KG. How will this be calculated? Will I be getting the 32 KG's upfront at RUH? |
AFAIK, you are limited to to the maximum of the flight with the least allowance.
For economy that is 30Kg plus 12Kg for you silver status = 42Kg. |

That is incorrect. It will be 23 kg x 2 pieces as that is the minimum allowance on the itinerary. There is no excess baggage for Silver for transatlantic travel.

Well guys here's what I got after enquiring Emirates.
Dear LovetoTravel83, Thank you for your online query, Kindly note that if your travelling with EK818 from Riyadh to Dubai in Economy class and EK225 from Dubai to San Francisco in Business in one ticket, will consider as business class ticket, and baggage allowance will be 2pieces of 32kgs. |
Suppose contact EK should have been the obvious answer, nice reply, best to keep a hard copy with your ticket just in case the check in agent thinks differently.

Had a similar situation but not transatlantic. LHR-DXB in Y then DXB-NRT in J was told could only use Y allowance as they won't give me the extra J allowance on the first leg. Didn't really care or argue as only had 18KG but was warned several times about this !! However you could always add extra bags in DXB ! |

Actualy it's the same bags, 2 per person whether your in Y, J or F, the differance is in the weight for each bag where it's more in J and F (32 Kg each).

Khalid26 was not talking about transatlantic travel. Point is you can open your bags in DXB and add 9 kgs to each one if you're on a multi class itinerary.
