Points for free flights and upgrades

over the last 2 years i was able to fly from the UK to Bangkok return for 60,000miles, Also around the time of looking their was flights for double the amount of miles.
Regarding upgrades, For 1 sector of my next flight, Dubai to Bangkok, they are asking 42,000 miles for the upgrade.
My question is, as anyone notice if the Miles for the Freebies go up one day and down the next just like the air fares for the required freebie.
Up to now, the Points have remained the same for a month.
One thing that i have noticed, I was able to get upgrades on 2 sectors out of for the Asia legs, but now i can only get 1.

Regards

I think the quote you have for 42,000 miles for an one-way upgrade DXB-BKK is to do with the class of your ticket. If you look at your ticket you might find that this leg will be a classed as a saver fare, thus incurring more mileage for upgrade.

Some of the tickets that I have booked lately have been mixed Flex and Saver fares. I always book on schedule alone not really caring which fare I have.

If you have a mixed ticket then upgrade the flex parts, which will cost you less mileage. It just might not be the legs that you want to upgrade.

There might be more availability for upgrading nearer to the depature dates.
