EK 211 take off aborted!

Long time lurker- first time poster!

Flying in J on EK 211 form DXB to IAH on August 8th and take off was aborted apparently due to ?flat tire. Everyone was deplaned and currently sitting in the lounge- ETD now 1600 hrs. While deplaning noticed that all 12 tires in the rear landing gear were flat- not sure if the emergency abort had anything to do with it. Very professional crew- kept everyone informed and calm, promptly deplaned within 20 min and informed of rescheduled time 40 min after deplaning.

By the way, thanks to all the posters for all the valuable info here in the forums!

Hi Selpo!

The flat tyres where likely caused by the aborted take off, so the real reason for the abortion is not publicly known, I guess.

When a take off is aborted, the brakes get very hot. So hot that they may cause the tyres nearby to explode violently. To prevent this, there are heat sensors that will initiate a controlled de-flating of the tyres if it gets too hot.

what about the passengers how are they? can anyone tell me if this flight has departed yet cause its status is RETURNED TO STAND what that means??

yyzlhr Aug 8, 2010 10:23 am

Return Flight now departing IAH at 8am on the 9th.

But no real infomration when it will depart DXB to IAH or arrive at IAH...on EK website at least

Emirates777 Aug 8, 2010 11:10 am

The aircraft involved in the incident was A6-EWC.

The flight departed DXB at 17:25 and is due to arrive around 00:50 local into IAH. The flight suffered such a long delay because the next free aircraft (B77L) was not available until then. In fact A6-EWH which operated the EK415 from SYD, arrived into DXB at 14:14 and then turned around to operate the delayed EK211.

A6-EWH was originally scheduled to operate EK953/954 to BEY but this aircraft was changed and operated by A6-EMK (a B777-200ER) instead.

It means the aircraft is going back to the gate.

This can be for a variety of reasons, including the aborted take off from this morning, in order to de-plane passengers.

return to stand means where the aircraft was parked up

MTG mtg Aug 8, 2010 11:33 am

so it means that EK211 is deplaning passengers on dubai airport right now cause this is its current flight status?

Basically it just means that the flight returned to the stand, it did not take off and did not arrive at its destination.

The flight number for the rescheduled flight would have been amended, maybe to 211-A or something similar.

I agree it can be confusing because there is no indication on the flight status page of a new flight number being assigned. Can you search by route with today's departure date, instead of by flight number?

MTG mtg Aug 8, 2010 11:54 am

i did but it says
Invalid Search Criteria
Sorry, there are no flights matching your search criteria. Please choose another flight number or route and try again.
so in actual is its passengers on their way to Houston on another plane?

EKglobetrotter Aug 8, 2010 12:01 pm

I just tried as well for you and it told me the same, invalid search criteria. Its extremely frustrating that its not been updated to show the new flight.

Emirates777 above said that the flight departed at 17:25 and is expected to arrive in Houston around 00:50 local time. He's normally right ;-)

I'm trying to see whether Houston airport has any information on their website about incoming flight arrival times.
