Lounge in BKK

I'm flying J out of BKK in a couple of days. Any comments on lounge facilities and general service for J pax out of here?

I know there's no chauffeur service available.

Here's a video tour of the lounge.

Standard issue EK lounge fit-out.

Super nice video. Cool.

The video pretty much says it all, standard EK lounge with good food available and helpful staff.

I use this lounge often and enjoy it every time, although the last time the TV area was cordoned off with a reserved for VIP notice draped across. Pity as I normally like to catch up with the BBC world news, which is normally playing all the time. Hope it was only a one off.

Enjoy your time there.

Are all their lounges exactly the same? They've started looking a little outdated now - I hope this isn't the design being used for the new ones, is it?

Not 100% sure, the latest one to open that I have been in is BHX, which is fitted out with same furniture and fixings, the only difference is the physical layout of the lounge. Which, when compared to the old service air lounge in BHX is light years ahead.

I can confirm the video is pretty accurate. A generic Emirates lounge. Food wasn't much to my taste but the beer was cold and football World Cup was on the tv.

Close to a (quiet at the time) smoking area for those who want it.

My flight had 5 (or maybe 6) pax in the 28 seat cabin.

Ung1, as far as I know, this is the "format" EK use outside of DXB. But I've actually only been to a handful (MEL, MUC, SIN, and DXB). In fact, the SIN lounge is the most "soul-less" of all the ones I've been to. The food is ok (don't change the menu at all, and the wines have stayed the same forever). Reception staff are exceptional.

The MEL lounge on the other hand is excellent in terms of atmosphere. Good food with a regularly changing menu and an endless supply of Moet or Vueve De Cliquot. However the reception staff are hit and miss.

Both the MEL and SIN lounges are located on level 1 of the airport concourse and both look towards the runways, but the MEL lounge has much more natural light.

I agree with your comment - the interior design feel of the lounges is a tired look and many of the BA and QF lounges (and SQ's new SilverKris lounges in T3) beat the pants off EK in terms of look and feel.

However, if you want a dose of airline lounge reality, try any UA RCC (Red Carpet Club). Don't get me started.

There is no smoking in the lounge which is rather frustrating when you can look through to the smoking section of (I think) the cathy pacifc lounge

It is a good lounge. Ask for them to make you a sandwich. The TV corner is the place to hole up in. Nice and private. Smoking room is down the stairs and over in the corner. Plenty cold beer available
