Volcanic Ash Disrupts Emirates UK Flights.

The only flight to/from Heathrow today was the early morning EK007/008 service, the rest are cancelled. I'm pretty sure several FTers are flying with EK today to/from the UK. Please share your experiences. How is DXB coping with the hundreds (if not thousands) of grounded passengers and also the UK airports?

I'm flying on Tuesday, I hope. Some information available at http://emirates.com/uk/english/about...l_updates.aspx

I'm currently stuck in BKK after being refused travel on EK419 last night. Any passengers with a final destination in Europe are also being refused travel. Absolutely no support offered at the airport last night, just told to call Emirates and rebook when possible. I'm trying to get back to GLA, but there are no free Y seats DXB-GLA until 25th April and all other routes to the UK are similarly full.

So I was supposed to be on EK9 from DXB to LGW yesterday (Thurs) afternoon.

As usual in these situations chaos, everywhere. 2.5 hours before luggage came back.

Currently in a basic airport hotel courtesy of emirates, with minimal info. I have a business class ticket which has allowed me to bypass some queues especially the bus/hotel queue.

Looks like all flights cancelled today, so just wait I suppose!!!

I am due to fly from BHX-DXB-PEK on monday evening.

what is the procedure regarding priority?

Do EK try to get the delayed passengers out in advance of currently booked pasengers or vice versa?

I am supposed to fly out tomorrow on EK 002, this is not looking good at all. Not to mention I am in Y on a multiple passenger booking, which puts me all the way in the back of the line. Oh well.

Looking doubtful. But you never know. Dublin is open again so maybe it will blow thru Heathrow too. Although the flight there will be a lengthy one to approach from the South and avoid all the closed airspace.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news:

From the EK website "All morning departures to the UK, Paris, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf and Hamburg on Saturday 17th April have been cancelled".

EK004

I was booked on EK004 yesterday; went to online check-in and found it from there. Flying with two mates to Dubai, then to BKK en route to VTE. Now camping out in Surrey with my family. Out of UK at Sunday at earliest. Bar 360 reservations and hotel cancelled. Nothing you can do.

UK Air Space.

Total Closure extended until 01:00 BST 18/04/10 and maybe (probably will be) extended further :(

This includes Scotland and Ireland that had a temporary lifting of restrictions late yesterday that was reinstated over night.

Yes, I figured as much. The odd thing is that on the Manage my booking yesterday it had me on a rescheduled flight on Monday, EK002. As of this morning that not longer appears, and it just says on my original flight (today's EK 002) that it has been 'rescheduled' in red. Seems like we will all just have to wait until UK airspace reopens. EK does not seem to be rebooking anyone at the moment.

UPDATE

EK have now cancelled all flights to to most of Europe for tomorrow Sunday 18/04/10

From the EK website at 14:45GMT 17/04/10
"Online check in is currently suspended for all Emirates flights. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
More than a dozen European countries have closed their airspace as the volcanic eruption in Iceland continues to cause widespread disruption.
As a result, all Emirates flights to the UK and most other European destinations have been cancelled on the 17th and 18th April.
Currently, Emirates is only accepting passengers for the following European destinations:
Moscow, Athens, Larnaca, Malta, Istanbul
These destinations could also be subject to cancellations if the path of the ash cloud continues to spread.
All passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport".

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 9:19 pm.
