Email Upgrade Offers...

Have noticed the loads ex Asia starting to increase - especially with the upcoming easter weekend. Loads are tough ex SIN to MEL and BKK to SYD etc. I dont trust Seatcounter or the EK seat map - I simply call the local EK office and they tell me direct.

This week was the first time in 12-months where I received an email offer from SIN to upgrade my flight to MEL this coming Thurs 01 April for SGD$230.

Also, first op-up ex MEL last Sunday. Normally, I only ever receive them ex SIN.

EK are also running aggressive deals ex Australia so this should impact loads.

Now if we could only figure out the real upgrade process/criteria, we'd be happier...!!

I fly the HKG - BKK flight around once per month... Its only a 2 hour 40 min flight, so always fly Y (around HK$1500 - HK$2000 normally).

Business is rarely full on this flight, so I always wonder why they dont sent out upgrade emails for these flights?. I would probably upgrade for HK$500. I know for EK its not a lot of money, but every little counts surely?

I have only seen the plane full departing BKK once and I was nicely upgraded that one time.

If you make it a regular thing to send out the upgrade emails nobody will be paying a full fare for J any more and always buy Y and pay less I reckon.

Possibly yes - but a business class fare for HKG - BKK is normally around HK$4000 - HK$4500, so they are not losing too much by offering a 'cheap' upgrade.

Also an a gold, I have access to the loune anyway, so that is no added value. There is no chaffeur service in BKK also...

That's a good offer. I flew EK from MEL to AKL in mid-March and received an email upgrade offer for AUD160 (a 4-hr flight). I went ahread but your offer is certainly more attractive as it's a longer flight.

No email upgrade offer on return journey though.
