Silver questions
Hi guys.
I have just got to the "Silver" status - woohoo! For our next journey from LHR->BKK via DXB I'm aware we can use the Emirates Business lounge. Can you please help me out with these qus: - Is the emirates lounge for Silver status members in Terminal 3? I read somewhere it's in Terminal 1... is that one worse!? - We have always flown as a family (myself and parents) as we go to Thailand to visit family. To earn the miles it's always been miles from all 3 of us (and are present on "My Family" in skywards.com). Does this entitle us all to get into the lounge, as if it's just myself that's a bit crap... - Does this mean if there's availability in Business on a flight we'd have more of a chance of getting upgraded? Thanks! |

Thanks for that :)
Is the lounge in Terminal 1 comparable to T3? I've seen some amazing videos of it on Youtube (t3) Any ideas about the family access to the lounge too? Really hoping it is for all 3... Thanks! |

The lounge at T1 is pretty good. It has showers, a dining area with hot and cold fresh food, a variety of drinks incl alcoholic drinks, a business centre, a smoking area, TV's, lots of place to sit. Except for the one time that it was really busy, I've found it to be very quiet, especially in comparison to the madness outside. It is a 10 minute walk from T3, but that's not too bad. Your chances of an upgrade don't depend on the availability in J, but on how overbooked Y is. And even then it depends on what route you're flying and when, and a lot of luck. |
Thanks for your reply.
Sadly yes, they are just listed on "My family", I wasn't aware up to now of the reduced miles they earn. I contacted Skywards and it is indeed only myself who can use the lounge, so it kind of sucks really!! One question I do have though, do additional people in "My family" earn tier miles too, even at a reduced rate? I looked at going Business from LHR->BKK and it says I would earn 21000 tier miles for this per Skywards member. I require 25000 to keep silver, so would my mum and dad also earn a few tier miles (i.e. enough to get the additional 4)? I just wish I registered them on their own accounts from the start, but now it seems silly and if it means that the next journey could retain silver for me, I can always do that for them after. Thanks. |
No, this is how it works. Tier is based on your own tier mileage earning. What other people in your family account earn makes no difference to it.
I couldn't find anything in the T&C re the tier miles they earn, but that should be the full amount for them. The actual miles they earn under the family bonus program is 20%, which is credited to your account. The solution to this is to ask Skywards to remove them from your family bonus account (3 deletions allowed per year). This way they can start earning their own miles. If you still want to go over the 25,000 mark to earn silver, you will need another flight, or try upgrading to F on one or more of the sectors and see if that helps. |
The Silver Lounge is in T1. It is actually quite good, and I would use that over the Business lounge that I now have access to being Gold, if it weren't for the distance. It is quieter and more private.
They may allow one guest but not more. |
