It has to be frequency (or a lack of). Ung1, if you're flying 6 sectors a year in Y between probably the 2 worst city pairs in the EK network - then that's understandable (ie SIN-DXB-SIN). Worst as in very elite heavy - not uncommon to have 38 Golds in a 42 capacity J cabin.

Come on a flight with me from SIN to MEL. I can virtually guarantee a pleasant trip!

But groobs your lack of op-ups worries me! What sectors typically? Did you upset someone in a past life? ;)

Very true. Adding MEL to my list of places to go to. Soon.

and me

I have flown MAN - DXB - <HKG/PEK/PVG> and return, and had 5 of 12 sectors upgraded. ^

Never on the MAN-DXB or DXB-MAN sectors though.

Therein likes my problem, my majority of sectors are MAN-DXB. I've occasional onward stops, BKK, SIN, SYD etc, but they are the exception to the rule.

And with the 3rd daily flight the chances will probably reduce further :td:

Look dont buy this ""we only op-up when full"" spiel from EK. I have seen op-ups (not me) happening, even with seats in J, tio F But it doesnt happen jjust to Golds, and I have no idea what triggers it.

Well, technically, those are not op-ups. They're complimentary. But I get what you mean.

And I will admit that I have received "complimentary" upgrades from EK.

What triggers it is a human (normally). For example, mine were requested by an EK station manager. An EK sales rep may have won a new account - or may be pitching for a new piece of business and make a request that a specific person (or persons) be upgraded on their next flight - for whatever reason.

You can be sure though that op-ups in the true sense of the word, happen each and every day due to operational reasons and comps happen far, far less.

I would say based on my experience that op-ups do not happen much J to F but ,believe me, comps do, and in both classes, though much less J to F.

I never said Op-Ups only occur when cabins are full, but its clearly a factor, and probably the most common one :p

My first flight with Emirates was rewarded with an upgrade to business class. But only for half journey. i have no idea why...my check in time was not too early and not late also. I have ordered a special meal and they didn't care about it. I got a normal meal for my second half of the flight.

Half of the journey?

So they gave an upgrade and then told you to go back to Y?

Can anyone tell me what the usual prospects of upgrade are like on these two routes: HKG-DXB (including the flight which via BKK), and DXB-BHX? i.e. has anyone been upgraded on those? Thanks! :)
