Question on misconnect

I have a friend flying from DEL-JFK on Emirates then on to Washington (the latter on a separate ticket.

Lately Delhi has been a mess for flights with smog delaying them hours, and raising the possibility of a missed connection in Dubai.

She's supposed to take the 8:30 a.m. flight to JFK, but the flights from India have been missing connections.

Emirates next flight to JFK if she misses the connection is 2 a.m. the next morning. Anyone have any experience with what if anything Emirates would do to get her back earlier which would require she go on another carrier?

She has no status and a cheap ticket so I suspect it's not much.

There is one Virgin Atlantic flight thru London that could get her into New York late. Otherwise to the Washington area, there are some connecting flights and also United's nonstop that leave like at midnight.

Any chance Emirates would move her to that? Short of that would you expect Emirates to offer anything, meals or other things for her unexpected Dubai stay.

As far as the JFK - IAD leg is concerned, EK has no responsibility for it according to the rules. However, if the stopover was longer at DXB due to a late departure from DEL, they would probably take care of the pax that are delayed, but not to the extent of an alternate flight on another carrier.

her flight is del-dxb-jfk on Emirates and then she goes on (on a separate ticket) to Washington.

If the flight misconnects, it appears she'd arrive like 10 a.m. The next Emirates flight to JFK leaves at 2 a.m.

I suspect Emirates doesn't owe her anything (except to get her on the next fight) since it is weather related (smog in Delhi), but anything special she should request?

Emirates's responsibility ends at JFK and for the travel onwards it is the passenger's responsibility. If the person misconnects in Dubia and will miss their onward flight and EK does rebook the passenger , I would advise phoning the airline which the US domestic flight is booked with and changing it and paying change fee/fare difference ; if has travel insurance then see if this can be claimed

If they just no-show, then the whole fare would be lost
