This has been fixed now. I was getting the same message, now it says Silver instead of Gold.

Today I had to register as I have been wondering how the qualification and review date is going to work so very glad to see this thread.

2009 was my first year with a skywards membership, first flight was mid Jan 2009.

My details are as below:

Current status: GOLD
Achieved on: 21 Aug 2009
Tier Miles: 59,996 (since achievement)

I have also got the: Congratulations. You have achieved the required tier miles to renew your Gold status next year. Your new card will be sent to you after your review date

59,996 tier miles were actually my total miles for 2009, since 21 Aug I have only achieved 7494 tier miles.

My existing card shows exp 02/2011

The replacement card on the website shows EXP 02/28/2011. Therefore, it seems the new system hasn't affected my status expiry.

Is my review date going to be 31/08/2010 as per the new rules or 28/02/2011 as it states on the replacement card?

Sal
I am in exactly the same situation with you Sal. Hopefully this will be clarified soon. I don't mind to get my 2009 miles counted towards my 2010 tier miles requirement though

I think there is still a bug in resetting tier miles. I'm gold till 28/02/2011, which implies that my review date was (which is indeed correct given the previous scheme) 31/12/2009. However, miles have not been reset to zero although I surpassed the gold tier threshold by 31/12/2009 already....

Me too... 1 bug fixed X to go!

It has changed now for me to say that I acheived Gold on Jan 5, 2010 - It was Jan 15, 2009 yesterday...

I had a chance to query these things today as Skywards called me about the golf tournament next week, Thought better to wait and I wil try to corner Brian Labelle and get so some answers -- and/or an official lurker?

On the "old" microsite...

...it was stated:
"If I am a Gold member and I renew my status on 31 December 2009, what will happen to my tier mile balance on 1 January 2010?
If you have renewed your Gold status for another year (exceed 50,000 tier miles by 31 December 2009), your next review date will be 31 December 2010. You need to achieve another 50,000 tier miles by this date to again renew your status and we will show you a counter to help you monitor your progress. This counter will start from zero on 1 January 2010."
This is/was exactly my case with the effect that the counter wasn't set to zero. In my opinion, this is yet another software bug...

BTW: This should also make clear that ALL "old" gold tier members should have their review date on 31/12.

According to the emirates website, Skywards Gold entitles you to a 50% tier mile bonus:

Skywards Gold membership entitles you to all the benefits of Skywards Blue and Skywards Silver, plus:
50% bonus tier miles when you fly with Emirates

50% bonus miles is different from 50% bonus tier miles. Obviously, what they mean is a tier bonus of 50% miles, but the way it is worded on the site implies it is a bonus of 50% tier miles.

I asked a question about why my 2010 flights are being credited to my existing tier mile balance form 2010- even though I was already a GOLD form 2008, therefore not a frst time qualifying and th enaswer I got was:

Thank you for your email regarding your Skywards membership status.

Effective 1st January 2010, one of the key changes to our new programme is a more flexible tier qualification period than the current calendar year. With this change, the qualification window to earn a higher tier will consider tier miles earned in the previous 12 months, for example January to January or September to September.

From January 2010 when you log-in to your online account at www.skywards.com, a dedicated new section called TIER STATUS will provide you with a very simple and interactive view of the tier miles you have earned, the tier miles you will earn on your future booked flights, the tier miles you will need to retain your current membership, and the tier miles you require to achieve a higher Tier membership.
I will just wait now....

Sal

Seems as though the skywards tier calculator has sorted itself out. Now it says... 'You require 1,480 additional tier miles by 31 Dec 2010 renew Gold'. This does make sense as in 2009 my first flight was around the end of Jan. So in effect my review date is the end of Dec 2010 and I assume if I take no flights in 2010 I will lose my gold status in feb 2011.

In fairness to skywards this is what they stated in the FAQ prior to the new site being launched.

Exisiting gold members in 2009 should still have their review dates as per the old system and as per the old system the rolling 13 month period won't effect existing gold members. As previously gold members have to accumilate 50k tier miles in 2010 to renew in 2011.

This means you will have had 23 months to renew your Gold status.

No, you need that many miles, but all the tier miles from the same month in 2009 will expire at the end of that month in 2010. So if for example you did a lot of flights in Feb 09, and don't do any in Feb 10, then the number of required miles will go up in Mar 10.

I agree with you entirely. Sometimes they should fix something if it isn't broken. I preferred the old rules.
