Upgrade question
Is it possible to upgrade a seat to first class using miles after one has already upgraded to business class using miles?
AND! Is it possible to get an OP-UPgrade at the gate to first class for a passenger who is flying in business class (upgraded from economy using miles)??? |
1-No, tried to do that at check in few weeks ago
2-Yes, but guess what, it happened to me right after I entered the lounge |
+1 on edy4eva s response
1) Tried, but never worked for me 2) Happened on three occasions, twice at the gate. Once on a HKG>BKK>DXB flight, after we landed at HKG. |
1. No. Miles can be used to upgrade to the next class. (not next, next class)
2. Yes |
Without starting a new thread and the title is quite general here is my Q:
Upgrades with Miles at Check In-- how does it work-- How soon before departure? If there is a seat in (F in my case) the class avail (no an award seat) do they give it out then- or do you have to wait till the gate to be confirmed? I wont bother turning up early if I cant get the seat on check in and use the F lounge-- will sleep an hour or so more at home instead! :) the Flight I am going out on this week has 3 F seats avail at the moment- and never had any Z availability for past month for this flight. |
Not sure if this helps, about 2 years ago, I was flying DXB-SYD EK419. Upon boarding the flight I noticed 2 vacant seats in J. I paid to upgrade the DXB-BKK leg
Anyhow; I complained later on for the treatment I received at BKK EK lounge. In their reply, EK CS perhaps misunderstood my explanation and said:' I do regret to learn that you were not able to upgrade to Business class as there were no seats available at that time. May I take this opportunity to inform you that bookings for Skywards Upgrade Rewards to be made into “A” / “C” sub-class only in the First and Business class respectively. The check-in counter staff has definitely no intention to appear unhelpful but he was merely restricted by the non-availability in “C” sub-class. |

Understanding op-ups?
I allways wonder how this works. I fly regulalrly in F and J with Emirates for work and probably fly about 8 legs with them per month.
I used to ask for an upgrade with miles at Check-in as I have horded allot of miles and allways book in Y whenever I travel with the family which is Myself, the wife and 2 children, 1 of which is under 5. In the past 18 months or so, I do ot use my miles anymore as every time and I mean every time I check-in, we are given complimentary upgrades and not just from Y to J but if there the aircraft is a 3 class configuration we have been from Y to F!! Once we flew from LHR - JNB and flew in F the whole way on discounted Y tickets. I would like to know why and how they identify us for this, as I am not complaining, but friends of mine that fly with EK allways say they use miles to upgrade or very rarely get a comp upgrade. With the Nippy family it seems to be automatic!!:D |
I have been a silver member and have been upgraded only once from economy to business. I have no idea how it works but in your case it maybe the case because you are a gold member and the flights you may have taken must be usually full.
With the new skywards program, i hope they dont make free upgrades more difficult. |
