EL AL to get NIS 20million($4.7m) for Missile Defense System
This just popped up on [Globes].
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert decided to accelerate the project to equip 6 planes with missile defense systems
Galei Zahal reports that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has decided to prioritize the project to equip six El Al planes with defense systems against shoulder launched missiles.
Within a month, the Ministry of Finance will transfer NIS 20 million to El Al in order to complete the project. This move has been delayed for more than a year due to a dispute between El Al and the government over the airline's demand for compensation for increased fuel usage due to the installation of the system
It's likely only the 777's / 744's will get fitted, though if you think about it the planes that should really get this equipment are the 737/757/767 that fly to remote places.

Super bump.
"Israel is to begin protecting its passenger planes from attack by terrorists equipped with shoulder-fired missiles by means of a revolutionary new defense system.
The system, built by local Elbit Systems, was secretly tested recently to great success, Israels Channel 2 News reported on Sunday night, and government approval has now been secured for its installation. In testing, the system proved capable of deflecting single and multiple missiles away from the target plane."

Wow, that really is a SUPER BUMP!
Isn't this the system that forced Arkia and Israir to retire some planes?
