LY Blows It Again On the Web

Just noticed a "redo" to LY's website. Another "work of crap". Unbeleivable.

They managed to update the site with their new logo, but here are just a few ridiculous things, not ready for prime time, but up on their live site!!!!:
1) The airplane on the top in the Hebrew banner is just a reverse (negative image) of the English banner - and you can see that the corporate logo is mirrored!
2) When you click on the Matmid "News and Deals" link in Hebrew, you are prompted for a network-level username and password!
3) The "Terminal 3 Map" is soooo confusing. Better off not having it their at all.
There's more - but its just so aggravating. The graphics themselves look ridiculous - and they are using WAYyyyyyyy too much Flash.

You would think that with the number of web designers and programmers in Israel they could get this right. Its a national outrage to have the national airline of a country with so much professional web presence to have such a sub-par web presentation revision, after revision, after revision . . . and if its not ready for prime time, why the hell did they go live with it?

Sheesh.

LatusElAl Jul 31, 2006 5:28 pm

Get this - I just figured out that not only is the plane at the top on the Hebrew site a negative mirror with the logo backwards - the image isn't even of an actual LY 744!!! Its a picture of an LY 744 1:200 model!!!!!! And they put the tail-fins on upside-down!!!!

How pathetic can you get?!? I really hope somebody from LY management is reading this board and gives a damn. This is really embarassing.

This happens all the time when they switch web sites. The bookmark leads to http://www.elal.co.il/blah/blah/index.htm (not a real URL), and the new website starts at blah2/blah3/index.htm. You need to update your bookmark to the new site. The same happened to me 2 days ago with the new Continental site.

Maccann-Ericsson (those who are responsible of this great website) is just down the road from where I work. I can go there and ask ... :D

This happens on sites that are generally poorly coded and they wish to protect themselves from hackers. What hackers can do is capture the HTML code, say to an eticket page where you are asked to pay $1200 for a ticket and then they replay the page back with a modified amount - of say $400. The application doesn't check that the amount being returned in the web form is different from what it just sent to the user and then it stupidly goes ahead and does the transaction. This trick has been closed for a while in many sites but many poorly coded sites still suffer this style of attack. One way to mitigate this type of attack if you are not sure if all your HTML apps are properly coded is to not allow bookmarking deep into your app and then allowing jumping to there. It would appear Elal is taking that preventative measure.

Amazing how they manage to get it wrong every time!
Another thing by the way is, when you log into your 'e club' account, it no longer shows a picture of a card relevant to your status, and the Kind David link on the side bar has gone too.

New "enhancements"...?

At first I was happy that it is possible to book flights from Moscow now at the new LY website -- the front page the 'global' version now has Moscow as one of the departure points. Tried making a dummy booking from Moscow -- and the next page orders me 'Please choose departure city'.

It goes without saying that the drop-down menu at that point doesn't have Moscow among its options for departure. :td:

yeah, LY had on their old website, on the signup form, a place for a promo code and such to reduce the fee ( I can't believe they have a FFP Fee, how stupid is that!?)

anyways, I didn't feel like paying, so I went in, studied the code, and reduced the fee to zero. and recoded it to give me 6000 bonus points on signup. I got an email saying welcome, and that the 6000 points would be in my account... but they only gave me 80...

apirchik - are you in Ramat hahayal?
