Foreign airlines are preparing for a possibility of changing the frequency of their flights to and from Israel, in case of an escalation in the north. Two foreign airlines which operate regular flights to Israel already announced that their crews will not be spending the night in Tel Aviv after their flights.

Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines crew members, including pilots and flight attendants, will return abroad shortly after landing and will not stay in Tel Aviv hotels. At this point, the airlines have not canceled their flights to Israel.

Foreign airlines could stop Israel flights if insurance premiums rise

Foreign airlines could be forced to reduce their scheduled flights to and from Israel, or suspend operations here entirely, if their insurance premiums go up due to the fighting in the North, according to the local head of a foreign carrier who spoke to TheMarker on Tuesday.

The source who wished to remain anonymous said that at an emergency meeting held this week with Tourism Minister Isaac Herzog, he and his colleagues asked the government to apply pressure on international insurers to keep the carriers' passenger and aircraft insurance premiums from rising as a result of the new security situation.

The executive added that Herzog instructed the representatives of foreign carriers to explain to their home countries that despite the missile strikes in the North, many of the country's tourist sites are operating as usual.

A senior Transportation Ministry official expressed concern about the "serious consequences" for air transportation to and from Israel as a result of continued fighting in Lebanon. He said he was worried about the drop in the number of incoming tourists, but said that the war will have less effect on travel abroad by Israelis.

FWIW, BA crews did there and back TLVs in the not so distant past. Nightstopping in LCA is also an option, but at the moment, my friend still has a TLV nightsop on her roster. :(

I think this goes without saying.
If missiles start flying over Central Israel, I don't think any planes will be taking off from TLV including LY's.

Airlines were still flying in and out of TLV during the gulf war when missiles hit central Israel. Some stopped, some kept flying.

LY will definetly be flying.
They have never stopped flying in any war.

Yes, I guess you guys are right, although its a scary thought planes taking of and landing with the risk of a missile hitting them while airborne.

AF send their 2220/2221 to LCA to spend the night there and flight 2221 leaves from TLV at 9AM instead of 8:15. flight 1621 from TLV departs on time but stops in LCA.
LX changed the departure time of flight 256 from ZRH to midnight instead of 10:30PM in order to minimize the working time of the crew that does the roundtrip. LH and OS do the roundtrip of all their flights with the same crew.
BA, DL and CO did not change anything and their crews still sleep in Tel Aviv.

KL 461 stops in LCA enroute to TLV. Flight 462 goes direct from TLV to AMS on schedule.

I think I would prefer to win the lottery... :D
