ELAL "B" Class ticket
 

My friend has an open B class ticket is chicago from tel aviv even though the ticket price was $1400 it was placed in B class as he is a student studying for the year while trying to make his return ticket the ELAL office was extremely unhelpful in finding him a flight home on any date from June 6 to the 15th they booked him on the 21st but he needs to get home earlier. I asked about putting him on the Delta flight on June 7 but the lady cut me off and kept screaming how a B ticket must be 100% on elal they refuse to send him to newark and then put him on a connecting flight via any partner. Is there any way around these rules or to upgrade the ticket to a normal one so he can use a partner? Thanks in advance for all the help.

The golden rule on handling bad agents is usually to hang up and call again. If you got bad service at an office, you should try the phone.

In general, when you buy tickets it comes with certain restrictions according to the fare basis and class booked (in your case B). Full Y fare with no restrictions that is flexible with the airlines is around 3000 USD so when you get a discount it will come with restrictions. You should try again later, once every few days. Look at availability tools to see if a B seat opens up on the flights the guy wants.

Just try calling again or try getting to a travel agent.
I wouldnt upgrade to a higher fare, just have him use his ticket up to NY - I am sure there is availability and then get a one way NYC - CHI. They cost around $70 - 80.
BTW - "B" is equivelent to "K"
