Just a negotiating tactic to use with Boeing or are they serious this time? Time will tell. My guess is just another negotiating tactic to use with Boeing

To replace it's Boeing 737 fleet consisting of 24 aircraft currently + for growth. LY could consider to instal fully flat C Seats into it's aircraft, given the extra space it takes A321's could be a good choice. Not sure how accurate this article is but a mix of A320 and A321's of course would also make sense. Leaving politics out and only focusing on Economics, I think looking at what is out on the market at this stage the A320 / A321NEO would be the best replacement for the 737 fleet of LY.

Frankly, if they did replace the 737's with A321's I think it would make a lot of sense.

1) More seats to fill. Demand is there!
2) They could achieve a 2x2 lay-flat J cabin, similar to GulfAir, offering lay-flat seats on ALL flights to mainline destinations.
3) A slightly larger fleet of A321s would free up some 787 frames to open new long-haul routes.

I am afraid the economics and politics in relation to "aid" and financial credits with the USA will probably trump ( no pun intended) other considerations.
