Etihad and Emirates may offer MAJOR Competition for LY

Etihad Airways Offers Flights to Israelis

Unless LY can somehow join an alliance, I don't know how they survive in any constellation, except as a heavily subsidized nationalized government-owned airline.
- Impossible competition to the USA (United, Delta, AA)
- Impossible competition to the Far East (Etihad, no doubt Emirates to follow in no time, Air India, Turkish)
- The low-costs to Europe
LY really, really needs an alliance OR needs to invest heavily in TLV as a feeder/connection hub (is that even possible, notwithstanding the UAE normalization?).

To clarify, Ethiad hasn't started flying to TLV, just that Israelis can now legally purchase tickets on the Ethiad website.
With regard to competition for LY, there is higher national pride for LY than other countries have for their national airline. If LY goes under, it will be because of their core, underlying issues, not directly due to increased competition.

Could Israelis not buy ticket on Ethiad before? (from the likes of AMM, or in combination with an RJ TLV-AMM flight) I'm not sure what's new about it?

Nothing points to this leading to any change any time soon.

+1, if anything could be TK and RJ will be the major losers. LY was able to hold its own as some want non-stops no matter the length of the flight or simply want to fly LY as bad as they were

Even flying over KSA, there's no way that LY has or will ever have the connectivity or potential route network that EK/EY have.

The gulf carriers have ehem, relatively low labor costs, very low cost of capital and no real regulations. In a low margin business, these things mean a lot.

On top of that, you have all the balagan that comes with being Israeli and having to deal with all our special needs/demands.

Why would an alliance help?

And which alliance would you think would work best - Star, Sky, or oneworld? Or possibly a rejuvenated outing of the so-called Etihad Airways Partners?

Hard to see what LY has to offer to an alliance. Essentially has one destination, which they all serve abundantly already.

For years, Israelis can but tickets legally on EY, EK and evening QR websites although not from TLV.

QR and EY sell tickets from TLV via OTA with the help of a connection in places like AMM, SAW, LCA, FCO, etc.

Buried in this newscast (sorry, it's in Hebrew) - Emirates and Etihad are planning daily flights to Israel (at 0:22):

I hope for daily DXB-TLV service! Only hope that connection will be convenient arriving from LUN at 6:30AM on Emirates.
