Problem is just under 600 of the Israelis are up in CUZ(Cusco) and the airport is closed, the Israeli govt is trying to work things out with the Peruvian govt to allow the 4 chartered planes to take them to LIM to catch the Ly flights

It's a win-win situation for LY considering someone paid most of the cost, surely better than just having the planes standing in TLV not generating any revenue. (and no doubt also creating great PR along the way)

It is my understanding that the government is picking up the tab and those flying are paying $.00 . Minimally, since these folks WILL be getting refunds from their pre-planned cancelled return flights should not be making theses monies, whatever amount should all be going to ElAl or the government. Otherwise these folks are making a gain!

At the very least they get good PR, additionally I have no idea what agreement they have with the crew that would have otherwise seat at home, either LY had to pay them anyway and lose money, or otherwise they at least work and get paid.
Actually it is privately funded, I'm not sure how many of them will get a refund and given the circumstances they might still be looking at losses for e.g. accommodation they won't be using

How did the crew scheduling work for these flights? Did they send 4 full crews (incl pilots, flight attendants and security personnel) to Lima a few days beforehand? Did the crew who operated flights into Lima deadhead immediately? I would guess they would reserve J-class seats for those deadheading crew who flew the incoming flights and the security personnel?

COVID-19 EL AL Repatriation Flights
Elal 073 on March 21 to India (didn't see it mentioned here).
And on the Hebrew Elal site:
https://www.elal.com/he/about-ELAL/A...e-Flights.aspx
you can find info on 5 more flights on March 24-25-26 to Mumbai (India), Delhi (India), Perth (Australia), San Paulo (Brazil). San Jose (Costa Rica) including prices.
There is no other airline in the world going around picking up stranded passengers! Respect!
