There doesn't appear to be any info on their site as to what the difference is between the new and the old. What's the motivation for switching?

My motivation is that many businesses don’t accept Diners (in Israel and Europe)
Also hoping that it will be free (compared to 30 shekel for the diners)

It’s free.
Its accepted everywhere (compared to diners which is not)
