New parking arrangements at TLV terminal 3

As of today it is no longer possible to park for more than 24 hours in the two car parks adjacent to the terminal (Kerem - vineyard and Pardes - orchard). The alternative offered is to park in car park number 26, which costs only ₪40 (rather than ₪80) but requires use of a (pathetic) shuttle bus which runs (at best) every 20 minutes or so.

In traditional Israeli manner, there has been no advance publicity, and I am sure a good number of people missed their flights today as a result. Fortunately for me, I happened to arrive earlier than usual.

In my estimation this change will result in an additional 30 minutes on arrival and departure for passengers coming with their own vehicles.

Changes take effect July 1st (tomorrow).
Cars parked over 24 hours in the short term lots will be towed.

The parking at terminal 1 is now ALL short term with the roof deck reserved for passengers flying to Eilat only (good luck on how they enforce that ).

Overall it is a good thing to discourage arrival in private cars, but of course, any change should be managed, while IAA has mismanaged it. But then what can you expect from an organization that does not even show a map of the terminal and the parking facilities on its website ( forget about the fact they did not even bother to create a website for LLBG. One needs to navigate through the IAA site for that.

Typical for Israel - create unenforceable rules and confuse the public.

I wonder if they really would.. but I wouldn't take the chance.
Why is parking 26 better than the regular long term parking?

Since I am fairly sure they don't have license plate readers in the Orchard etc lots, I can't see any way for them to enforce 24 hours, except to make it difficult to exit.

They definitely do. Every ticket I've ever taken when entering the parking shows my car number on it.

A number of years ago before they turned the parking area at T3 to long term parking as well, I parked for about 50 hours. My car was towed to the outside lot adjacent to T3 and I had to pay a fine to have it released.

Since they altered the lots to allow long term parking, I used it for all trips of under 5 days which are most of my business trips and I assume most others who travel for business. Very convenient.

I wonder if this is for just July+August which makes sense or permanent?

I had read previously somewhere that Lot 26 had an unpaved section that was free parking. Is that still the case?
