Downgraded on award booking through third party (Qantas)

Hi all,

I recently booked a PE reward flight TLV-HKG using QF points. Upon arriving at the airport I was advised I was downgraded to Y and that there would be compensation but that I’d have to follow up with the El Al customer service team. I was then issued with a PE boarding pass.

I got to the gate and it beeped. I was taken to one side, issued my new boarding pass and advised compensation of $1,230USD would apply (it was handwritten on a piece of paper that the agent was reading off). Unfortunately I have no proof of this.

After the flight I emailed El Al and they have responded advising I need to contact QF (Qantas) since the ticket was an award booking booked through QF. They also hinted the compensation is actually some sort of points refund.

Has as anyone had experience with this? I have found the rules around flight downgrades on El Al which refer to a % refund of the price paid, but there is no reference to PE->Y downgraded or award tickets.

Any suggestions / advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
