Won’t LY lose market share on some routes when the 744s are gone? Of course they can add frequencies to compensate the reduction of capacity but I guess getting new slots on some airports is going to be very hard.
Your thoughts ?

Nah, doubt it.
The notion that an airline line LY need's that level of capacity is simply untrue.
Not attacking you personally, just attacking the constant overture of "LY should buy the A380 / 747-8 / 787-10" Bandwagon.
What LY needs is frequency over capacity.
Sure, they do have a few key routes (LHR, JFK, CDG) where an aircraft with 350+ seats could be deployed with great success, but the vast majority of their route network is more of a 250 - 280 seat aircraft network.
Personally, I'd rather see LY increase frequencies on key routes, rather than dump a larger aircraft and maintain the same number of flights.
YYZ, PEK, HKG, & other destinations are good examples: As they onboard more 787's and rationalize cost Vs capacity, they may actually be able to expand in these markets. Those 3 specifically, they have zero excuses to be at anything less than daily (Well, 6 weekly).
LY has a solid code-share with WestJet on the Canadian side, they could be a real competitor to AC.
Same could go for HKG & PEK, it's all a question of leveraging their code-share agreements to penetrate the markets deep enough.
