@beduin,

The fact that you, as a Saudi, don't see why is there so much fuss about is already a good thing

Business class fares start at $2060, while I cannot find an ElAl fare for less than $4600.

At half the price, and considerably shorter flight, AI are a no brainer.

Unfortunately, the connections to MEL are poor - I was hoping this would open up a faster route from TLV to MEL

Yes, as I already posted earlier...

The economy fares aren't bad, but you can find smilier fares with ElAl.
The Business class fares being half those of ElAl are a steal.

Moderator Note

Please remember that political discussions belong in the OMNI section of FlyerTalk for those who have access.

Otherwise, this thread is only about the topic of the flights themselves.

On the legal and economic dimensions, the closure of airspace to commercial aviation originating in India, Israel or anywhere else was never justifiable. It will require some pressure, but El Al will get permission to overfly as well.

Now that it’s possible to fly over Saudi Arabia, I think that TG will follow as they have already signed a memorandum with Israel.

SQ may now push with Indonesia and Malaysia to reach the same agreement.

Less likely to happen soon based on this though. Not to get too political, but Saudi Arabia and Israel need each more nowadays than Malaysia or Indonesia do, and India is more important to Saudi Arabia than Singapore is as a single economy.

Could Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong also try to take a routing over Saudi Arabia?

If you’ll at their current route and the way QR gets to DOH, it does make sense to go over Saudi Arabia.

Not so sure about it. HKG-DOH average flight time is 9:30 hours. HKG-TLV average flight time is 11:30 hours. Consider it is at about 2 hours DOH-TLV. Current routing is actually faster than overflying KSA...
