Will LY order the 737MAX to replace their oldest 737NGs?

Hi,

some of their 737NGs were delivered in 1999, isn't it time for LY to replace them with the MAX?

Hag Sameah :)

Since when is 20 years old for LY......?

I wouldn't expect them to order any MAX aircraft for at least 5 years.
What might be interesting for them is to do a combined MAX & C Series.

The CS100 & CS300 would allow for a lot of growth into smaller but lucrative markets.

It's a pipedream though. Boeing would never allow it.

Still, would be nice to LY's fleet consist of:
787
737
C-Series

I think the real question is whether LY will order the 777X. They can use the capacity to places like London, Paris, Moscow, New York and probably Los Angeles as the market continually develops.

I don't disagree that the 77X could have a place in the LY fleet but given LYs financial and operational history it may behoove LY to focus on commonality for a bit. Get the fleet focused on a small subsect of planes over necessarily most opportune/maximized yields.
I also agree that Boeing may not be as friendly if LY goes for a CS order though that could potentially be leveraged for a good deal on 737s. The CS series is still new with less than 15 deliveries and working out the operational quirks. This happens with pretty much all jets but the jet itself is not yet proven as effective and may not be as good of a fit over other possibilities.

LY will be running the 737NG's for another 15 years no problem.

I don't see LY ordering the C-Series.

Neither do I, however, a 100 - 130 seat aircraft is definitely missing in the LY fleet. There are a lot of secondary Europe markets that could profitably be operated with an aircraft the size of the CS-100 or even the CS-300.

Markets that come to mind: Dublin, Manchester, Oslo, Copenhagen, Saint Petersburg to name a few.

It's a total pipe dream & pie in the sky idea, but it's a real shame because LY is the exact type of customer that could benefit from the long legs and the ultra-efficient machine that the CS is.

oh well :D

LY doesn't fly to LED anymore??

Nope.
The market is there, but unfortunately LY cannot compete with the lower prices that the likes of Ural & Rossiya can offer.

places like LED, AER, DUB, CPH, OSL, even GYD would be fantastic fits for a CS operation at LY. Too bad it will never happen.

It'll be interesting to see what happens once Arkia takes on their 4 A321 neo aircraft due in 2018.
They also have 787-9's and A330-900NEO on order.

Interesting times ahead for Israeli aviation.

what a shame they don't fly to LED anymore.

Arkia will not take delivery of their 789s: they will lease them

Yes, there is correct. They haven't starting assembly yet. It will take a while. Right now, the entire A339NEO is still testing flight. They won't have certificated from Airbus sometime in late-2018 or early 2019 during at that time.

Actually, it will be 737-8MAX. It does have more capabilities. They can fly TLV-DUB without fuel stop. The range is 3,800nm.

According to Bombardier, the CS100 has a range of 3,100 nm, while the CS300 has 3,300 nm. TLV-DUB is only 2,181 nm.

There's a map of the range on their web site which shows the actual range from several cities, CAI is one of them, and it shows available range even to KEF with three assumptions:
1. Dual class.
2. 85% annual wind/enroute temp
3. Typical mission rules.

All four “Arkia” 789 are already leased and flying with Norwegian

I thought they didn't take 4 787-9 to Arkia or did they canceled the orders.

Actually, the CS300 has a range of 3300 nmi, which is more than enough for that trip. In fact, a CS300 could probably fly TLV-BOM on the route around Saudi Arabia down to near Djibouti and over. However, I don't expect El Al to leave Boeing for anyone else, so no C Series. They will order the MAX when they feel the need to replace their fleet.

I can't wait for Arkia to take those 789s and 339s. I could see Arkia starting NYC-TLV and a seasonal less than daily MIA/FLL or MCO-TLV. Maybe a seasonal weekly/bi-weekly Caribbean route like PUJ-TLV as well. The A321s will probably just fly to Europe and possibly Africa. Maybe start ADD-TLV.
