Canceling ticket after security

Anyone here has experience with needing to cancel a ticket after going through security due to change of plans?

How/where in the terminal would I get back to the landside?

I had something similar. The airline people needed to take me thru immigration and security to let me leave.

Why do you need to do this?

I don't need to do it this very moment, just asking in general since I may be in a situation soon where there's just a >50% that I will need to turn back at the last minute.

What do you mean by "airline people"? To talk to the folks at the gate itself?

Did you just walk backwards (in essence) or did you walk as if an arriving passenger?

Where are you? LY flies from many airports and the rules are different at each one.

I guess you are asking about TLV.
You can't just walk back. Immigration and security wil not let you.
Speak to the gate agents

I was sitting in the lounge one Friday afternoon (several years ago) when the LH afternoon flight was canceled due to mechanical failure. The airport was virtually empty at this time of the week. They let us all out by virtually backtracking the entrance procedure. I can't remember how we went through immigration, but I'm sure we did.

I once did exactly this, about 10 years ago.
I let the gate agent know that I wasn't getting on the plane.
The gate agent off-loaded me from the flight and then called security.
A security agent then eventually came to the gate (remember, at TLV, there is no visible security presence at the gates or anywhere past border control) and escorted me back up to the passport control area. He waved me through and I just walked out. That was it.
One caveat: I had no checked luggage. I imagine having bags might create a bit of a hiccup.

I once missed a flight from TLV. Agent came, took us through immigration (at least we skipped the queue) and then waited a while to get our bags which had been offloaded. Not the most pleasant experience.

Thanks for the helpful info.

I'm wondering if my ticket was a fully refundable one booked eg on expedia, and I trigger a ticket cancelation on the website after checking in, would the gate agents/computer automatically/instantly know that I should be declined boarding?

had similar experience on the last day the wonderful Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull affected flights in Europe. The flight TLV-BRU was on, but connecting flight wasn't going to happen (BRU-CDG). Thing is - no way to get from BRU to CDG (train filled to the brim, not a single car left in BRU). And they were not sure BRU-CDG is really canceled.

Reached the gate, and then they assured that connecting flight was cancelled, so I've canceled the flight. Luggage was offloaded, had to go (with someone, probably security) to incoming. Got my luggage an hour after the plane left (was carrying some liquids).

1/10 will not try again ;)

I had that experience twice in two days when Delta flights to JFK were cancelled and had no problem leaving. I did, however, have to use the biometric card both to exit and re-enter.

If you are going to change your mind, for whatever reason, please do it as early as possible. If you have checked luggage it will have to be offloaded. That means the folks on the plane are going to be delayed while they search for, locate and off load your plane.

There was a report here on FT some time ago that someone who had an Israeli biometric card (I believe the passport, not the handprint card) who tried exiting/entering twice within a 24 hour period and unable to, and the reason given was that you can't use it twice within 24 hours for whatever reason.

I had that problem with the handprint reader. Was about 18 months ago.
